Been playing it on the PC-with real HD resolutions, a real framerate, and AF/AA ME does look really, really good. There are a couple of LOD texturing bugs with the game I think (Garrus' face especially) but overall the fidelity is just wonderful.

yeah there were LoD texture issues in the 360 version too, which were obnoxious. Still, its not like Halo 2 where they just dont load the textures till youve been playin a few seconds lol

That happened in the inventory screen though. I'd load it up just to see untextured wrex and garrus.

Its easier for a game like Mass Effect because aside from the characters moving around, there isnt a whole lot going on. Its like being able to be a tech demo and a game at the same time.

Artistically the game is fairly generic.

Alot of the cover is destructible and the physics is especially noticable when you cast Lift and several enemies plus cover go floating in the air.

Maf, it's far more impressive looking than a future game like Starcraft 2. 

Seriously though, some of the graphics are really great but a bit uneven.  For example, the main characters are some of the best looking models ever but the NPCs are barely better than Xbox level.

How is it generic? Generic means 'lacking identity', not sticking out of the rest...when it's one of the most unique looking sci-fi games out there with its grain filter and understated classic designs.

It doesn't have to be wacky Final Fantasy sci-fi art, to not be called 'generic'.

It's weird.  When I played it on 360 earlier this year, I was really into it and thought it was rad.  But as soon as I beat it...I had absolutely no desire to play it as an evil motherfucker.  The game was just that unsatisfying.

I guess it was cool while it lasted, but I'll agree with demi for once: KotOR was infinitely more immerse and had a shitload of replayability.  Awesome sidequests, whereas Mass Effect had...uh...basically the same planet with the same goals, only different colors.

Nice. Are there many differences (besides the dialogue ones) in the game when you play as a woman?

Voice work is much better, my Shephard is pretty and possibility of alien lesbian sex scene.

That's my biggest complaint, besides the horrendous performance issues on the 360 version. The sidequests were terrible and there was little to no effort put into them.

The game is very short if you want it to be. You can finish the game in 14 hours, doing the main quest at a very calm pace.

I agree that ME does look really slick on the PC.  It's a nice improvement over the 360 version.  A solid framerate (60 fps) with v-sync is incredible.  I'm not using AA, but it doesn't really need it on my CRT.  As far as 2008 is concerned, I do think MGS4 is overall more impressive to behold than Mass Effect (something I honestly didn't expect as most of the media leading up to release didn't seem impressive), but ME is one of the finest looking games out there.  The 360 version really doesn't compare, though.  It LOOKS virtually the same as the PC version (other than resolution), but the framerate issues, skipping, pop-in etc. all destroy the otherwise beautiful visuals.

Crysis Warhead will take best visuals of the year, though.    We all know that.

I thought the animation was pretty good overall.

They didn't actually increase the level of detail, but none of those things you mentioned at the end there (framerate, textures, etc) are a problem on the PC version.  It runs much better and feels more polished as a result.

mass effect might look impressive but almost all rooms/areas in the game are small like the Citadel.

and the awful optimization sure didn't help.
