I agree there. But when it comes to stuff like FFXII all I see are shitty copy pasta environments which are flat out boring.

No jrpg has ever topped the art design of FFVII-X for me, and the pre rendered bgs are a part of the reason for that.

I agree with you on that. I played a lot of JRPGs during the SNES and PSX days and I really loved them, but after that I've really cooled off to genre. Oh, I still play some of them now and again, yet I can't help but feel that a certain charm is missing that used to be there and I'm not nearly as excited about the genre as I was back then. I don't know if it's the change from largely prerendered backgrounds or just a lack of newness or what.

By the way, download the widescreen patch for Planescape: Torment and crank it up to high resolution. Looks absolutely amazing [it's NINE years old!!] and every location is just so full of life and detail, certainly doesn't hurt that the writing is second to none in the videogame world.

ok, i admit, the town and dungeon look hot.

battles look fine but seeing the character models up close is not so good.

Yeah, character models could use a little more smoothing over

but shit, it looks like fucking genuine final fantasy, something I haven't seen in almost a goddamn decade.

the reason i liked lost odyssey so much was because it had imagination. imagination and that magic warm fuzzy feeling for the days of old.

As a PC gamer, I don't get why you'd find tons of appeal in the kind of designs that flourish on the PC and then be able to turn around and enjoy the kind of stuff on the Wii. Unless all you play on the PC are casual games and console ports, I suppose. They appeal to totally different sorts of gamers, you aren't going to find a huge overlap between people who play WoW for hours on end or hardcore strategy games and people who play Wii Play and Wii Sports for fun.

PS3+PC should make the most sense but oh god in heaven does the PS3 library suck total donkey.

I will simply have to buy a Wii for Prime 3, Galaxy and the Next Zelda. That's all I wanted, want and will want from a Nintendo console EVER. Those three franchises.

Except for MGS4, SMG is better than the whole PS3 library.

It's not for me, but I can see why it would be for you since your first RPG was a PS1 game.
