Watchmen Thread (SPOILERS)
« on: June 16, 2008, 10:38:11 AM »
******Obviously, if you want to avoid spoilers for Watchmen, do not read below this point.******

I just finished reading it and I'll start with what I liked most about it:

-The alternate reality with superheroes and Nixon in office is great.
-The pirate sidecomic is very well written and is interwoven perfectly in the main story.
-The themes are well laid out
-Knowing that Rorschach's journal may have been published is awesome. I would have liked to know what happens when the world finds out though.

What I didn't like:
-I thought that the "fake alien" that Ozy creates is pretty fucking ridiculous. Now I know that the story was fiction, but I thought that the universe lent itself more realistically than that. A fucking alien that was cloned from a psychic's brain? Cmon.
-Dan and Laurie's complacency at the end seemed kind of out of character. I realize that they both were somewhat complacent after they became outlawed, but I figured after they had the superhero renaissance and broke Rorschach out of jail that they would be more steadfast.

I thought that it was good, but not great. I didn't find the story very profound, but I will say that it was well told. Any further insight into the story or impressions would be greatly appreciated.

I had originally titled the thread "Can someone tell me why Watchmen is great?"

spoilers thread hmm

ive been thinking about the film a bit

or more specifically Im wondering how they will shoot the scene where Rorschach dumps hot cooking oil on a guys face in prison

because imo, its the most badass scene to show his character

hope they dont pussy out and not film it, obviously they will have to use cg or some good makeup work to do it

uhhh, they film Rirschach pouring a liquid that looks like hot cooking oil and then add sizzling noises.  :lol :lol :lol It's not that hard.

You hope they make a good movie as opposed to making a shitty movie? Me too.

David Hayter is one of the writers, and he worked on Xmen 2, so it could be good.

He got taken off, apparently. Using a different script. And :lol at thinking David Hayter is a good anything.

And yes, the second half of Watchmen does tend to get a little loopy.

They're still going off the David Hayter screenplay.  There's been rewrites and there always are with big budget productions regardless, but Hayter will still get credit for the screenplay.

Seriously? I was told different on this very forum.

Man, the movie is gonna suck ass, then.

The Hayter screenplay was apparently pretty good, actually.  I really haven't heard anything negative about it from filmmakers, leaks, fan sites, etc.

I'm sure thinking it sucks comes out good in the end, because if it does suck I can feel good that my judgement was right, and if it's good I can be surprised.
