The inoffensive abbreviation is "JPN." But come on, the guy typed out "American" first, and even "japanese," (not the lack of capitol letters!)

"Moonspeak" is kinda offensive too I suppose, but that's hilarious.
I got pretty pissed off at a guy who said "don't Pak me" at my old job once, by the way. It's not like I'd just get uppity over something said about Japan. This idiot was then like "haha, well it's like saying 'don't Jew me'," to which I replied "I'M Jewish."
"Me too," he says. Easily one of the dumber people I've ever encountered. He left his textbooks in the store after he awkwardly left, too. I wanted to throw them out so badly.
