Stan Winston (April 7, 1946 – June 15, 2008), was an Academy Award–winning special effects and makeup artist, and film director. He was best known for his work in the Terminator series, the Jurassic Park series, Aliens, the Predator series, and Edward Scissorhands.

After watching The Thing yesterday I couldn't help but think that if that movie was made in 2008 it would totally suck due to overuse of CGI. Stuff like Robocop, The Thing, and Alien still looks better than most run of the mill CGI, like Transformers. Everything in The Thing looked like I could touch it; my brother slapped me in the back of the head and say "that's cuz you CAN touch it dumbass" but I hope my fellow thinkers here know what I mean. Hell, Gullom looked like something I could touch, and Davie Jones did too. But usually CGI seems to take me out of a film rather than bring a believable world/creature/etc to life
