Famous for Robocop and being that guy you hired when you had no idea what the monster should look like, Stan Winston is dead at 62. Sad times and a bad week for not-that-old celebs

Stan Winston (April 7, 1946 – June 15, 2008), was an Academy Award–winning special effects and makeup artist, and film director. He was best known for his work in the Terminator series, the Jurassic Park series, Aliens, the Predator series, and Edward Scissorhands.

you can't beat that resume. rip

After watching The Thing yesterday I couldn't help but think that if that movie was made in 2008 it would totally suck due to overuse of CGI. Stuff like Robocop, The Thing, and Alien still looks better than most run of the mill CGI, like Transformers. Everything in The Thing looked like I could touch it; my brother slapped me in the back of the head and say "that's cuz you CAN touch it dumbass" but I hope my fellow thinkers here know what I mean. Hell, Gullom looked like something I could touch, and Davie Jones did too. But usually CGI seems to take me out of a film rather than bring a believable world/creature/etc to life

I hate it. He will be missed quite a bit but thankfully his legacy will live on. Rumors suggest that the 2 gentlemen who have been with him since the early 80s will continue to run Stan Winston Studios. I never even knew he was sick. He looked in good spirits in all the stuff I've seen of him showing off the Iron Man costume.

It was amazing to watch him work in behind the scenes videos. He really loved and cared for all his creations. He understood how things worked and how they should work to make them seem real. It was almost like watching a 8 year old showing them off. He just had this aura and enthusiasm that is lost in most people when they grow up.

We'll miss you Stan. You've given us more cinema memories then anyone else I can think of. Hollywood will never be the same without you.
