It say's 7.0 right under that. What the hell?

4.5    Presentation
The story and dialogue are goofy, and both are delivered awkwardly. A DVD-esque menu system is good for skipping around, but otherwise it’s pretty useless when there’s little worth watching.
6.0    Graphics
Central Park looks adequately spooky at times, and the game runs smoothly. But most character models, enemies and environments lack personality.
6.5    Sound
The soundtrack is catchy, creepy and atmospheric. But the voice acting is cringe-worthy.
3.0    Gameplay
Glitchy, buggy, frustrating, boring and repetitive. The few truly interesting puzzles don’t balance out the annoying inventory system, controls and combat.
3.0    Lasting Appeal
You probably won't want to finish this game, let alone play it more than once. Since everything is open from the very beginning, there's nothing to go back and unlock.
3.5
Bad    OVERALL
(out of 10 / not an average)

I didn't look, but I presume the 7.0 is the IGN UK score (which I trust much more than normal IGN actually but at the end of the day it's still IGN so who gives a fuck).

Yeah UK scored it a 7.

IGN US is on a tear lately - Operation Darkness and Alone in the Dark get crucified while MGS4 and GTA4 get free passes.

I wonder why ::)

IGN US seem to love tearing into games that are actually OK, whereas IGN UK and Australia seem far more level-headed.

I don't know if they're just trying to gain back credibility or what.  If I were them I wouldn't bother -  plenty of 'tards still frequent their site along with Gamespot and 1UP I'm sure.

Alright, I played through the first episode last night. It must fall off a cliff quickly because I thought it was good. Lots of cinematic, high production moments. The fire looks amazing and its satisfying to put it out as you make your way down the halls. The puzzles were pretty easy, but they work well with the predicaments you find yourself in.

Yeah, the dude moves terribly. It was a horrible design choice. Slow and tank-like with his turns. And the camera doesn't work the way you think it should work (turning the camera left or right only gives you an extra 30 degrees or so view to the side - you can't look all the way to the sides without turning the guy's body that direction). However, I like what I've seen so far - granted there was no combat in the first episode. I can see how the combat will get frustrating having to go inside your jacket frequently coupled with the dude's slow movement. We'll see though.

So they added a GTA-like overworld for Central Park. Great. The cars all drive for shit, and when a Humanz (yes with a z) jumps on, they just beat the crap out of you, and you cant even do anything about it, unless you jump out of the car, or slam into a tree.

Also, when using Fire Bullets, you cant just shoot them and expect them to die. You need to shoot the "cracks" in their body, for some reason. So I've found that just knocking them out with melee, and then just pegging them from there works easiest.

I'm on Chapter 4, btw.

Gametrailers have their review up?  Sweet, they're the only reviews I usually like.

Edit: that was a great review.  Unlike IGN's reviews which seem more focussed on melodrama and hyperbole, GT's review gave a really good impression and outlined the faults clearly without throwing a hissy fit over them.

I'll definitely pick it up cheap.

Why would you buy this game when you knew going in it was most likely going to be terrible and a 10x better game was releasing the same day (Bad Company)?  It's like you did it just to be different.  Basically threw your 60 into the trash.  We could be having a blast playing Battlefield but instead you got this piece of shit.

I'm starting to warm up to the game, now. I have gotten a handle for the controls (just use first person the entire time), and a general "default" item management, making the game easier to deal with. The driving parts are few and far between, and completely optional in the overworld. I just finished Chapter 6, which was -really- short. Two more chapters left, I will finish it this weekend, then clean up the rest of the achievements I missed. Health doesnt seem to be an issue at all, I could get beat on constantly and I still wouldnt be in any immediate danger. The only times I've ever bled out is when I shot an explosive nearby and I was in the blast.

Played Chapter 2 last night. Gawd the controls are clunky as shit, but I'd still enjoyed it. Driving down 59th Street wasn't as bad as everyone has made it out to be. Did it in first person view, so that may have helped. Died about 7-8 times. Still fun though.

Am I missing something with the melee combat? You just...basically waggle with the analog stick?

The game just feels really janky to me. It's like GTA4's turning radius for humanz (yes the game says humanz) but with the camera really tight in on Edward.

And the driving is giving me trouble. I'm episode 2 - scene 5.

Yeah, the combat is really bad. Just stick to plugging them with Fire Bullets (you have to shoot the cracks on their bodies).

You are supposed to emulate swinging it. So swoop the stick from left to right, and he'll swing accordingly. Then go from right to left to swing back.

The driving part took me a couple tries too, try not to keep it cranked to full speed, you can ease around corners and such.

Do it in first person entirely for an achievement :hyper

Here's what you should have in your inventory for best results:

Left Side:

Bullets
Lighter (you get this later, like Ch 3)
Bandages (in case you bleed out, plus can be used to make Molotovs, bandages burn slower)
Tape (to make sticky bombs)
Batteries (flashlight)

Eventually you'll get another story item (Lens) -- swap it with Tape

Right Side:

Two flammable bottles (glass or plastic, doesnt matter, used to make Fire Bullets, or blow open doors or group of humanZ)
Healing Spray
Anti Rust Spray or Mosquito Spray (used in conjunction with lighter to make flamethrower, destroys Humanz with extreme ease)

Dont bother using Glowsticks or Flares, or Blood Packs. Also dont bother combining. There are only certain situations where you might need to make a certain product, and when that happens, the game will simply stash a ton of items in a room nearby for you to fish through.

There's also an upgraded gun (Magnum) in the first fuzzy circle you see on the map (Chapter 3 I believe) -- these fuzzy circles are required for the best ending, I think. You have to burn all the roots of evil.
