I really like the cut-scenes in the demo, but the gameplay angered me. This game and siren belong in last gen.
Eh?
Alone in the Dark was actually attempting a LOT of new ideas that really are forward thinking. As is common for such an ambitious project, however, they have failed. It tries a lot of new things and really doesn't get any of them right. It's similar to Trespasser in that regard. Nobody would have said that Trespasser was "rooted in 1994" when it came out. No, it was very clearly trying something totally new and just couldn't pull it off.
Siren is entirely different. It's a solid game, but isn't really trying anything totally new. That said, many of the ideas in Siren were forward thinking even on PS2. This new game executes them in a more solid fashion. The controls can still be a bit weak, but it actually adds to the experience. I mean, if you could move and shoot like Gears of Uncharted, the encounters would lose a lot of their tension. The controls aren't bad, per se, they simply don't allow you to perform all of the actions you could in a dedicated shooter.
