An issue to chew on: Stilettos for babies

LIVING REPORTER

Sex and the City put stilettos in the spotlight and now a couple of mothers have put them in the crib.

Tiny soft baby shoe with soft heels, for infants up to 6 months, are "just a fun, novelty, dress-up item," says Britta Bacon, 30. "I've always been a shoe freak and I thought, `Omigawd, what if you could take a baby to a party wearing high heels? It would be hilarious!'"

Bacon and partner Hayden Porter, 31, call their Bellevue, Wash., company Heelarious (heelarious.com).

The one-size shoes, in leopard and zebra patterns, black and hot pink patent and hot pink matte arrived this week at Acheson's in Orangeville (achesons.ca). They'll be available next week in Toronto at the Doll Factory, 1122 Queen St. E.

"They're very cool," says Acheson's owner Dianne Acheson, who sells them for $39.95. "The packaging is so cute, with a great big rhinestone. They're a beautiful baby gift. The heel is soft. There's nothing that's going to affect the baby."

But there's been criticism of the product, on blogs and by some experts. "We get tagged as horrible and perverted: `Why would we put babies in heels, taking away their innocence?'" says Porter. "But a 3-month old baby has no idea she's wearing high heels."

I'm not sure whether to be amused or horrified. Thoughts?

Could be worse.

I actually saw those and thought they were just stupid. It's not funny or witty or anything. Bad marketing.

They're from Bellevue. This shit doesn't shock me at all.

Way to fuck up your daughters and turn them into shallow materialistic whores right from the get go!

Those are not very sexy at all.

More sexy than ol' horseface Sarah Jessica Parker though.

I always feel so out of place over on the east side. An hour over there and I'm dying to get back to my city.

I think Sex and the City rivals Mein Kampf in its threatening destruction of respective modern society.

a few weeks ago during fathers day i went to wal mart to get a card. i wound up staying in the car for a few extra minutes to listen to a segment of sports radio, and while parked i saw this beat up pt cruiser park in front of me. the PERVIEST asian man i've ever seen got out, walked to the passenger side, yanked open the door, and then pulled this little girl out. she couldn't have been more than 6 or 7. anyway she was wearing the absolute shortest shorts i've ever seen on a non-infant, and her hair went down past her behind. i was shocked but didn't want to stare for obvious reasons, so i wound up looking around - and lo and behold everyone was staring at the girl.

wow

you know how some guys refuse to deal with their baldness by combing it over, leaving various bald spots all around the side of the head? plus he had a very spotty facial hair, like a WEAK mousy mustache. and he was wearing bob barr glasses

and he had short pants on too!

Wait, so you think balding people SHOULD delude themselves by accepting combovers into their lives?  I am not pro-delusions, my PD.  Not unless they are of the drug-induced sort.

i'm saying he's bald, but denies that reality by using the comb over technique. i'm black so if i go bald i know i'll look good. :bow

I'll put up a new picture reasonably soon.  It'd be through facebook.
