Brandonh83 walked out and was convinced it was the first G movie that wasn't for kids.

spoiler (click to show/hide)
2001 and Planet of the Apes were both rated G. But that's probably right using the modern interpretation of the G rating.
[close]

Wall-E is a shoe-in for an Oscar for Best Animated Feature and I think it's very likely that it'll get nominations for Screenplay, Original Score, and some other technical ones.

Yeah, you are right, totally forgot about Apes and 2001. I need a smack to the face. God, the score. Seriously, can anybody find anything BAD about this film?

Some people have found a way, but I like to think that those people don't have souls.

Wall-E was not only the best movie I've seen all year (I highly doubt anything will knock it from movie of the year for me) it was the best damn animated movie I have seen since I was a kid. This movie makes me melt like butter. This movie is an example as to why I wanted to make cartoons when I was younger.

An instant classic.

this movie kicked ass.  I didn't think the 'social commentary' was overbearing at all.  If anything it was just a backdrop for the 'love story'.

great, great movie.

Movie was amazing

Annoying "consumerism" message aside, I found the whole interaction between EVE and Wall*E to be so freaking cute. I'll admit it, there's a couple of moments where I got misty eyed.

Also, the Pixar Short before the movie was fucking hilarious. Its essentially a CG version of a 1960s cartoon. I'm not sure if the cartoon itself was pulled from a specific cartoon in that era but it was just amazing.

This movie just confirms the fact that Pixar are fantastic animators. The facial expression and body movement of the characters in both the Pixar short and Wall*E just had me in awe. Little gestures Wall*E had really made the robot endearing.

Yea, this is how I feel. Though I took the consumerism stuff to just be lighthearted parody of suburban America, not some big stern warning.

It's funny to read FoC's gloating in this thread after seeing the movie.

Fuck the CG was amazing.

Best film of the year to date, and easily the best Pixar movie.

And Cohen, the way the political/social overtones are done is SO well that it does not suck. Brandonh83 walked out and was convinced it was the first G movie that wasn't for kids.

Best CG
Best story
Best animation
Best themes

This motion picture deserves Academy Awards, and not just for animation. It totally blew me off of my ass.
Brandon WALKED OUT EARLY? If so WTF, EXPLAIN SIR, IF NOT NEVERMIND I'M DRUNK

I think he meant that he walked out of the theater when the movie was over.  That statement seems more as a compliment to me.

Wall-E opened at ~$62 Million, which is about what Pixar movies generally open at. All the "Bubububu kids won't want to see a CG movie without cute talking animals!!" people were owned. :bow2

In other news, Wanted opened at ~$51 Mil!  :o

I seriously wonder how kids enjoyed this. Did they even understand the story? Both times I went it was packed with adults.

I've seen a lot of cartoons and animated film. I think I may be spouting hyperbole here, but I think Wall-E was the best animated movie I've seen. Pixar used every advantage of the medium to tell an amazing story and proved you can get emotionally attached to a fake thing more so than anything in live action. It was so different than any other animated movie I've seen, even when compared to the best of Japanese animated movies. Yes, probably more enjoyable than Grave of the Fireflies.

Hopefully this is the movie that finally lands animation some got damn respect and shows those fancy tweens that animation can be just as powerful than live action. If this doesn't score a best picture nomination there will be outrage!

Wall-E was awesome.  It was Anthem with a plant instead of a lightbulb.

Yes, probably more enjoyable than Grave of the Fireflies.
Who the hell considers Grave of the Fireflies "enjoyable?"

No one in their right mind. It's a great film, but not enjoyable.

Totoro, the other half of the original double feature with Grave, is enjoyable.

I never thought I'd live to see the day, but if Wall-E holds to its 9.3 average at IMDB it'll knock The Godfather off the top spot.

It's already blasted its way up to #9 with just 5,300 votes.

Everybody's talking about the anti-consumerism, anti-corporation message and all that, but one thing that I started thinking about today is that basically the people are ruled by the robots. But instead of "Ooooo, humanity is enslaved by evil robotic overlords!" ala The Matrix, the robots are just really, really, really nice to the humans. So nice that the humans basically voluntarily agree to give up their free will and humanity and live in their own little virtual world while the robots do everything. Wall-E, because he's lived all his life among the remains of humanity, is the only being left that still knows what it is to be human, and so he has to restore the people's humanity.

Right, the humans are complacent and happy to do nothing at all to better themselves. They are literally floating ideally by through space.  Wall-E is the only individual who knows better. It's not that the robots hate the humans they think they are doing what's in the humans best interest.

Saw it again earlier today. Just as good second time as first time. Anyone know what the name of the song that plays during the opening is? I've had it stuck in my head.

Well, I mean, in terms of artistic vision. It's a wonderful story, as sad as it is.

Yeah it's the best robot-human relationship I've seen in a movie without having to resort to ROBOTS AM EVIL

It's Put on Your Sunday Shoes by Michael Crawford from the movie Hello, Dolly!.

this is the kind of movie where if you don't see some sort of entertainment value in it, it's a deal breaker
