A second manga, illustrated by Yuji Iwahara, the original character designer for the anime, is currently being serialized in Square Enix's Young Gangan seinen magazine under the title Darker than Black: Shikkoku no Hana. This is a separate one from the first and it is a new story taking place one year after the events of the anime.

Guess I should read it then.

Tomino + ROBOT (Stuido that did the Onimusha CG openings) + Yoko Kanno = wut?

This is amazing.  I normally don't like CG anime, but ROBOT is incredible.  Their CG people look good and their animation and attention to detail rocks.  Plus Tomino is the best person ever when it comes to Gundam.

Is that all there is?  Is it like a teaser for an upcoming book/manga/???

No one is really sure if that's all there is. It sure does seem like a teaser with all the fast cuts from one scene to another.

Wise from your gwave!

Code Gease - I've had the first two parts for a few months now, back when Best Buy had a bunch of anime at 50% off. First 9 episodes are totally awesome, can't believe I didn't start this sooner. Some of the fanservice and highschool hijinks come off as totally out of place, but that seems to be pretty intermittent so far. Everything else is just really cool, I'd say this is easily one of my favorite shows from the past few years.

The Wallflower - A parody of bishounen shows from the director of Excel Saga. It's totally off-the-wall and crazy, but so hilarious. It tends to be a bit repetitive though.

R.O.D. The TV - A friend of mine has been going on for a long time about how this is one of his favorite animes, but for whatever reason I kept passing on it until yesterday when I got the first volume from Netflix. As with Code Geass, I can't believe I waited so long to watch it. The show's got slick action, comedy, and plenty of style. I can't wait to watch more of it now.

Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 - Started out with a bang, middle part was dragged on a bit too long, and the ending was a utterly bittersweet. Overall, it ended up being better than I thought it would be, definitely one of the better shows from Summer 2009.

If i remember correctly most of the geass haters actually liked up till ep 9 or so but ignoring them season one was really good.

Season 2 was just......actually i have no fucking idea what season 2 was.

Suzaku sucked donkey balls though in both.

This really can't be said enough. Every time something awesome is about to happen he shows up and is all "Zero, I hate you!! Why do you hurt people?!" and messes everything up. And his big plan to the make the world a better place? Be a bleeding-heart pacifist liberal, despite the fact that he's a trained soldier fighting for the country that took over his father's country, and, I guess, killed him as well, and has, on at least two occasions, tried to have him killed, all while piloting the most cutting-edge killing machine ever invented. First box coming this December 18th. First box 53,025yen, second box 61,950yen, third 69,300yen, and fourth box is 67,725 yen. OVA itself is SD master upconvert and movies are in HD telecine master.

So let's convert that from Weeabo bucks to dollars: ~$530 + ~$619 + ~$690 + ~$677 = ~$2,516.

Yeah, the Japanese anime purchasing market is NOTHING like the USA's domestic market for it. Japan gets away with a lot against its own consumers; even regular music CDs are about 30 bucks here, and they've been that price for at least 16 years. Occasionally I can find the import version (US domestic) of American or British bands I like for about 16 bucks, but many Japanese don't buy those because they lack J-translated liner notes and lyrics.

The new anime season is finally here and the first round of new shows has started.

A Certain Scientific Railgun - Kids with psychokinetic powers live in a futuristic city and help keep the peace. The first episode does a good job of setting this up and manages to avoid one of the biggest problems plaguing new anime: info dump. It gives you the information you need in a way that comes across as a lot more natural than in a lot of series. There's nothing about some shadowy conspiracy or shadowy organizations or shadowy figures. There's Judgement [the city's police force], ESP powers, and varying levels of ESP powers. That's pretty much what the first episode gives you, aside from introducing the four main characters. The highlights of the show are the animation during the action sequences, which is fluid and well-done, and the backgrounds, which are vibrant and detailed. The characters themselves probably won't win any awards for originality, but they do seem to have some depth beyond that.

The Good: Animation during action sequences, backgrounds, good basis for some cool stuff later on, and the characters are slightly above the norm for anime.

The Bad: Cheesecake [Shock!] is present from episode one and it sets the basis for more to come [one of the girls is in love with another of the girls, so expected LOTS of jokes stemming from this].

Hard to tell where it's going to go from here, but the first episode was pretty good.

Major is fucking amazing.  :o

are you starting from season 1?

Season 1 and 2 are great, Season 3 begins to drag and Seasons 4 and 5 are pretty much the same things.  There is also a movie that's good and set between Seasons 1 and 2, but since it's a flashback, it spoils events from Season 5.

If you liked the first two seasons and wanted something like that, but a lot better, check out Ookiku Furikabutte (or Big Windup in the states).  It's pretty much the second best sports anime behind Ippo.

I haven't been watching too much anime in the past few months.  I've actually kinda stopped watching anime I was n the middle of, so I should return to those.  Probably Michiko to Hatchin since I stopped at episode 15.
