Wtf is DtB Flower?

Manga that takes place between episode 25 and the new series.

Speaking of DtB, what's taking so long with the Funimation's Blu-ray boxset?

Only watch One Piece and Major.

Finished Major season 3.

Middle part of the season sucked, but it really picked up at the end and I think by the end of it, it's my favorite season in the show so far. It had a lot of drama, big pay off, and great strategies. End game of season 3 owned.

Getting season 4 now.

I'm now on season 4 of Major.

Goro goes to America to try out for the major leagues.

There's this one hilarious part where they have to team up to win a game in tryouts. There's this white guy on the team, and this black dude goes up to greet him to which he's given the following response,"Sorry, I don't befriend people who aren't white. If you want me to shake your hand, I could go touch a toilet later if you wish."

And I just bust out laughing.

It's cute, Japan's depiction of America. I mean, I'm not denying that racism doesn't exist any longer, but no one in their right mind would say that shit. This show continues to be as ridiculous as possible and it keeps topping itself. :lol

Has anyone translated the Major manga?  It's like 72 volumes long!  I was reading up on it on Wikipedia, and it sounds pretty cool.  Starts with the Goro's dad getting dead-balled in a Japanese pro game, winning, but then dying due to internal bleeding, and then it switches to Goro as a little kid and follows him all the way up from little league, to high school ball, to the American minors, and then the majors.  Crazy!  He also goes up against
spoiler (click to show/hide)
the guy who dead-balled his dad and eventually beats him.
[close]

How far does the anime series go?  The manga is still on-going.

The only sports series I ever got into was Harlem Beat, a basketball manga.  I liked it because it focused on street ball instead of high school animu stuff, and enjoyed the story and characters.  Basically, you have this everyday typical kid who always quits clubs/sports teams instead of trying to get better.  He tries out for the basketball team, gets sent to buy some equipment, and runs into an old female classmate from elementary school.  She takes him to a street hoop, run by an undefeated team.  One of the members shows up and they play, and the kid is about to give up, but the girl essentially calls him a little bitch, and he bucks up, gives it a try, and ends up doing a high jump into air walk, scoring a basket off the member that no one else could beat.  This series had two major problems: One, the publisher was Mixxzine/Tokyopop.  They changed character names to more "Americanized" titles, then after 7-8 volumes, put the series on hiatus.  That leads to the other problem, which is when they brought it back under the name "Rebound," but skipped ahead and didn't bother with several volumes, fucking up the continuity.  I loved the first 5-6 volumes, which focused on street ball, and then shifted to the high school team, with several members using street smarts to win.  But then it basically just became all high school-stuff, without the street ball, and I lost a lot of interest.  I have no idea if Tokyopop ever finished translating it.

The author, Yuriko Nishiyama, then did another series that Tokyopop brought over, called "Dragon Voice."  It was basically Harlem Beat with a boy band.  I never thought a comic about pop music singers could be fun, but somehow it worked.

I have been looking for Major manga, lyte, and have been unsuccessful.

Major is good, but it's not the greatest sports anime/manga. It's no Slam Dunk, but it's fun enough to watch. Though, at times, it gets to a point where you're like WHY DO I BOTHER.

And the beginning part of the series is the best. The growing up aspect is one of my favorite parts of the series.

I think the anime is on season 5 now. I'm not sure if they're on Season 6 or what yet, because I only see up to season 5 on Major Ja Nai (the fansubber who does Major).

i think major animu is done, no more.

i've been following himu impressions of the whole series and so far, i agree with pretty much everything he wrote.

season 4 though is my least favorite though, didn't like the minor leagues at all but then again season 3 wasn't all that hot too.

With that said, I downloaded Wicked City the other night. I really got into it for awhile, and I almost wanted to recommend it to some friends, but why the hell does it need so much weird sexual stuff? Like, why does that tentacle parasite have to enter the girl's throat in such a sexually penetrative fashion? And why does the spider demon shoot webbing from a toothed vagina? Most of the movie is fucking badass - the action scenes, the overall premise, the characters, but I know if I tried to show it to most of my friends they'd be like "wtf, you perv" when those scenes came up.

These days it's moe; in the late-80's through the mid-90's it was weird sexual stuff. Especially in movies and OVAs.

Also, Wicked City was directed by the same guy that did Ninja Scroll, so no surprise there.

I think for quite a lot of people who were teenagers/adults in the 90's, anime can be defined by Ninja Scroll, Ghost In The Shell, and Akira.  When I was in high school, it was those three plus SFII The Animated Movie (with dubbed-in GRUNGE SOUNDTRACK!!  YEAH HARDCORE!!)

These days it's moe; in the late-80's through the mid-90's it was weird sexual stuff. Especially in movies and OVAs.

Also, Wicked City was directed by the same guy that did Ninja Scroll, so no surprise there.

I wouldn't make that comparison; stuff like Wicked City you could count on one hand back then, whereas moe is like EVERYTHING now.  I haven't seen it in years, but Wicked City's sexual stuff would probably be pretty tame nowadays.  It's not like it showed any of the naughty bits, and those scenes were very brief.  I wouldn't exactly equate it to say, Urotsukidoji from back then.

Those were definitely the days when you had companies bringing out any anime they could find with BLOOD!  and SEX!  "BECAUSE ANIME IS MATURE!  NOT FOR KIDS!" was their M.O.

It wasn't so much on TV, as I said, but there were a lot of OVAs from back then that delved into that sort of thing.

what is it about

People with psychological disorders go to an unorthodox psychiatrist for help with their problems. He generally solves them by giving them a "vitamin" shot and then inserting himself into their lives to try to help them figure out the causes of their problems and what they need to do to solve them.

All of which tells you very little about what the show is actually LIKE. It's trippy, hilarious, and off-the-wall.

Plus trigun anime isn't any worse than the manga which became absolutely DREADFUL in the final years & volumes.  Ugh.  The whole property is one of a good setup but not good payoffs.  Wolfwood is still awesome.

Also, Onamori Himari sounds exactly the same as this other moe show from several years back, only that show had dog-spirits instead of cat-spirits.

Anyway, there's a couple of shows in there I will check out.  Or rather, will probably download and never watch, just like this season.  The artwork on Katanagatari looks pretty cool.
