I worked at a Goodwill for eight hours today. I was the only guy there, so I was doing all of the lifting and moving. Not the worst work in the world, but jeez. The people who worked there were split evenly between bitter 'good' people and convicts. Smoke breaks were entertaining.
I guess I've never thought about it, but there are a subsect of people who give all of their garbage to Goodwill. I must have taken in 120 deliveries, and almost all of it was crap. I will be donating less to Goodwill in the future, especially clothes. Probably 10% of all clothes collected are deemed good enough to be sold in stores. The rest are apparently sold as rags.
Some woman dropped off like ten huge bags of clothes, and a few boxes. I sorted out all of these musty men's clothes, tons and tons of them. I got to the boxes last, and it was full of empty pill bottles and fucking bedpans and cathaters/colostomy bags. WTF lady?
No less than three people gave bags and bags of assorted holiday stuff. Half-complete fake trees, jack-o-lantern pails...throw it away people!
By this time next week, I will have compacted more crap than I would ever buy. I really think spending time there will make me buy less crap.
