P3 may be repetitive, but I think it's so much more addicting and better because of it. "One more day!" and if you get bored of day time you can instantly switch to night time and vice versa. This gives P3 a versatile feel most rpgs just don't have. I feel like I'm in control of my playing and I can do whichever I want when the mood strikes!

More dungeon variety would fix that repetitive feeling. The days weren't repetitive as there was plenty to do.

That's the game's only real problem imo: the dungeons. And P4 fixes that. You have more traditional dungeons in P4.

I like the ost, but it starts to wane as you get further in the game. It's not nearly as good as Persona 1 or 2's ost, or even SMT: Nocturne's or DDS1+2's.

It's not that I don't like the tunes, the only problem is that there are so few of them. I wish each main area had its own tune. The mall, the shrine and both stations use the same track. Even the stores have a mid-tempo version of that track.  :-\

It could use more variety in music. Hope P4 offers that.

second semester? I just finished the second exams. We'll see then...

I have some epic sessions when I do play...one more day turns into 2 more weeks often :)  The days are not the problem.  I like day time since I get to choose who to hang with + the school song is great.

Tartarus is the problem, but it's good to see they're doing traditional dungeons in Persona 4 :)  The overall feel of the game is that its very constrained.  If I didn't enjoy the characters and S.Link system, the game would be in the garbage.  and I'm 30 hours into fes and its like damn, there's so much more to do.

But w/e, Persona 4, day 1, I'll pick it up with my EM-700s on like a cigarillo . :lol

the nicest thing in Persona 3 is seeing all the little touches that indicate the passing of time, and the little details to give it life... like dogs barking in the background when you're about to go to sleep, stuff like that...

I hope the fourth is less corny than the third, they altered the formula too much to cater to a larger audience and it's ridiculous, the personas practically became cute Pokémons... you could give the game to your little sister and she'd be enthralled by it

in comparison to the older SMTs... those are rough and gritty, and practically every line any NPC says in the game is an hilarious joke

I don't know why I can't just start a new game, I keep replaying games lately.  Something about knowing exactly what to do and feeling like a badass just tearing that shit up is awesome.

Seriously, it's not like the game needs the power of Cell for this:

The only thing I can see is that maybe they're hoping to get on some DLC loot with these downloadable characters. Either that or Sony moneyhats.

I don't understand this. I thought P3 still retained the classic SMT brand of morbidness. Once I started to realize how the main character changed his personality during daytime for anyone he saw fit depending on the situation, from telling a lil girl to run away and telling his friend in kendo to keep practicing despite risking not being able to walk again but at the same time consoling a dying young man, I started to think day time was just as wtf as night time despite the bright colors. It's a more mature, cerberal SMT. It places its matureness in its themes, not in its visuals.

You just mention contrasting choices that you as the player have the possibility to make.

You were yourself telling at some point that there was nothing fucked up in the game anymore. Come on, it's obvious, most of the agressivity is gone, and a lot of the scenes you allude to could also take place in a thousand of cute animes with dark themes. I like the lighthearted j-pop music (I find it hilarious) but it doesn't beat fantastic butt rock.

It's mature? More like, most of the dialogue is completely serious and features animu characters being emo. I miss the old SMT in-jokes. It's never been an RPG that took itself any seriously. It's always been like 97% of absolutely hilarious allusions and NPC dialogue with religious imagery.

How are the characters being emo. If there's any game where I think the characters deserve to lash out because of all they've been through it's P3. Even then they hardly complain.

How is the decision on 12/31 not fitting your definition? It ties along with the rest of the game, in a very different way. You mention butt rock when P3 has butt rock.

What the fuck are you talking about?! SMT doesn't take itself seriously? Are you talking about Persona? Even Persona, which has always been the more mainstream Persona series has always taken itself seriously.

Jesus Christ what are you talking about. What absolutely hilarious allusions do you even speak of? I've played and beat console SMT released in the states and I have no clue what you are talking about. Persona is less about religious imagery than the other spin offs. Have you even played Persona 1 and 2?

But it's not the core musical theme of the game, it's been switched to teen music. The only song done in the old style was the one that played when you fought a member of Strega and even it was played at a slow pace.

Yes that was a rare moment of brutality but even it's shown off-screen when you actually select the most evil option. There were many such choices in the core SMT games whereas there's only one in P3.

On average the NPC dialogue in the original Persona was a lot more tongue-in-cheek than in P3. The original Persona had the hilarious recruitment dialogue too, but they've been replaced by tarot cards in the third iteration.

Digital Devil Saga 1 and 2 did take themselves seriously, yes. But not the core SMT games. SMT III which you've played has hilarious dialogue with the mud dolls, the souls and all the demon NPCs, and the recruitment dialogue. Not to mention that most of the villains that you encounter in the game aren't really trying to be scary, most of the time they're quite goofy (save near the end).

It was even more this way in the two Super Famicom games. Seems the franchise has gotten tamer and tamer over time.

You ought to finish them someday. I'm about to finish SMT II. :bow
