It's our second wedding anniversary today, but my wife has class tonight so we can't go out or anything. Seeing how I've got all summer off with nothing better to do, I attempted homemade lasagna this afternoon. Hopefully it doesn't kill us both!

I wish I had the strength. I did low-carb for most of a year and it sure as hell works but damn, it makes cooking and eating boring as hell. It's also really tough in Japan, where damn near every meal is built around rice.

I make his spicy pumpkin fritters from The Naked Chef as a side dish all the time. Much more nutritious and tasty than french fries. You don't have to be slavish about following his directions for the spices either; if I'm in a hurry, i just mix some cajun seasoning or chili powder with olive oil and baste them.

Did you have any frites with the meal? Belgian food is pretty awesome, we have a really good restaurant around here called Waterzooi, which specializes in mussels cooked up all different ways, frites, foie gras, and other good Belgian and French fare.
