I just want to see the Rock Band 2 and XBLA announcements and I'm good.  I have to work anyway so I can't get caught up in the spectacle.

I want to see a trailer for Infamous. It'd be nice to get gameplay footage of OPF2. But that's about all I'm interested in, really. Are The Big Three One and the Two HD Midgets even having showings this year?

Last year I would've said yes, but this year I'm really hyped.  Xaggle, all the game rumors, etc.  I'm looking forward to the MS conference tomorrow.  E3 basically ends for me when that conference is over.

Last year ruined e3 for me.  I'm growing more and more apathetic to gaming news in general though.

same here. the only things that peak my interest are Lich King and SC2. I'll troll Nintendo on tuesday morning but I'll still wind up watching their conference in anticipation of another rehash. But yea, I'm just not as excited about the shit anymore. A few years ago I lived and breathed E3. Hell, I spent an entire week pretending to be a Nintendo insider once. now it's like meh whatever

I usually don't get really interested in e3 until it's time for the new console announcements. That's the only time in which I anticipate the show. The e3's in between I only watch for new game information and videos, and the possibility of suprise announcements. Nothing truly exciting but there will at least be some eye candy.

I don't give a fuck about E3 anymore.  E3 was awesome once I was a partisan fanboy, instead of the indifferent cynic I am towards gaming today.  Fanboy jizz will be sprayed everywhere, Sfags will declare that 2009 is the real Year of the PS3, Xfags will be damage controlling, and Nfags will be excited over some pointless non game.

So in other words, I expect it to be like E3 07.

Bah, this has nothing to do with "sfaggotry", and everything to do with that the whole concept of a wagglemote from Microsoft is as comically obnoxious as it is obnoxiously comical. Other than suspect hardware quality, it's not like Microsoft has a decent stable of developers that it can push to create content for the device, nor has the company really ever shown any sign of being particularly great at grasping simple original family fun. It'll be a fucking Rareaggle device, because that's all this company has. And as we all know, Rare sucks at making good games. Best case scenario, we'll get something that makes first person shooters somewhat more enjoyable, but then the right path to that would have been to just fucking include kb/m support as standard.

I am very excited for E3.  Even just the press conferences give you a good idea of the stance of a company.  Activision hired Jamie Kennedy to douche up their showing, the entire year for them was them sucking (except for CoD4).  MS showed an average trailer for the super-hyped up Halo 3 trailer and Halo 3 ended up being average.  Then there are tons of announcements for new games to look forward to and not play for 3 years.

I also can't wait to see MS show their own shitty waggle controller so I can yell out "WAGGLE SUCKS IN 720p JUST LIKE IT SUCKS IN 480p! NERDS!".

I used to be so excited and into all the news and press conferences, but this year I really just don't care what's going on or even announced for the most part. Hell, I'm still catching up on three year old PS2 games that I haven't played, this gen is taking a backseat to older stuff.

Nintendo is the last friend gaming has among the hardware manufacturers. Truth.

Edit: Not saying they're a very good friend, either. But Sony and Microsoft will be solely to blame if your preferred brand of gaming goes down the tubes, not Nintendo.

What's a "true gamer?" Who defines it? (Actually, who cares.)

But "true" gamers just need to get over it. And the truth of the matter is that there isn't much to get over so far, since the focus of developers doesn't seem to have shifted from PS3/360 too much at the moment.

A true gamer is someone who would rather play games than flail their arms while watching a movie.  A true gamer isn't a man who sits around jerking off to numbers and poorly done graphs.  A true gamer doesn't always spring for the LE version of game because that money could be used to buy another game instead of fagging over just one.  A true gamer has an 8 inch cock like Johnny Gat.

Developers are never going to take the Wii seriously.  Developers never took the Genesis seriously, despite a strong performance.  Most third parties would release token effort and then their bigger and better stuff for the SNES.  So developers can and have snubbed a successful console before.  Doesn't mean that we won't see some serious Wii efforts (shovelware and PS2/GC ports do not count) but developers are going to be investing most of their creative capital on the PS3 and 360.

I don't know, fans of one system might tell you a true gamer prefers to make sandwiches while installing a game that is just a movie with the occasional interactive sequence.

E3s that aren't revealing new console generations are more about console wars garbage than anything else.  The press conferences are literally about marketing / positioning for the coming year, and you can get info / trailers / shots of upcoming games at any time, really (and released on the devs' schedule, not some arbitrary conference's schedule).

One guy doing a live blog actually typed up something like "GTA4 360 EXCLUSIVE! TAKE THAT, SONY!".  You would think this was Kotaku, but it was actually one of those 'pro' gaming sites.  I think Gamespy or something like that.

I don't remember the last one where one was truly good for all three.  2005 was Sony lying about the PS3, Microsoft lying about the 360 and trying to hip, Nintendo fucking did some electroplankin shit and had Miyamoto hit on some woman with Nintendogs before ending by showing a small box and saying that it is the revolution.  2006 was terrible for Sony, great for Microsoft, great for Nintendo.  2007 was good for Sony, bad for Microsoft, bad for Nintendo.

I want great announcements all around.  I just like to game. I have no seething nerd rage, though I like to troll every once in a while for fun.  I am not projecting my anger at the world on to a competition between the console manufacturers.  I have no allegiance to a corporation.  I'm not poor. I can afford whatever console whenever.  If there were enough announcements that interested me from any particular company, I would go buy their console if I didn't already own it.  Though I'm jaded, there's a part of me that's really just yearning for anything that pleases me.  Sure, that sounds like a tautology, but that's the extent of my relationship with gaming as a whole (then individual experiences might go deeper.)  Same with any medium, really.

Is that a good enough hardcore manifesto?

Western developers you mean. Japanese developers have little choice but to support the Wii, and unlike in the US their shovelware bullshit actually sells in Japan.

Someone here mentioned many developers are just Michael Bay at heart and want to make blockbuster games. They can't do that on the Wii. Not one western developer has done anything of interest on the Wii or DS imo. They simply don't care. Remember all the rumors and wishes we heard shortly after the Wii's reveal? Change the face of FPS? Star Wars games? etc

Nintendo lost me after that E3. To this day the only games that interest me are Zelda (might as well get the superior GC version) and Mario Galaxy. What do Nintendo fans get now? Another 4 years of rehashes while Sony and MS introduce new franchises and fun shit.

No, I'm talking about Eastern developers as well.  While PS3 and 360 get Resident Evil 5, the Wii gets Umbrella Chronicles, the latest of the several, disposable and will be ignored, shoot em up RE games.  While Wii gets Dragon Quest Swords, the DS gets Dragon Quest IX.  It will probably get X as well.  Square hasn't done anything worth a damn on the Wii but they have several DS projects, a couple for PSP, and a couple major projects for PS3.

I have yet to see a Japanese developer really treat the Wii as a legitimate console outside of Nintendo and their subsidiaries.  They almost see it like the western developers: just a dumping ground for ports and useless titles to get enough capital to invest in their desired PS3 and 360 projects.

This year could be different as the Wii now has established itself as the clear leader but if they are able to profit from the PS3 and 360, I don't expect any developers to have a Wii-centric strategy.

I do agree that Nintendo's load has been blown.  Mario, Mario Kart, Smash Brothers, Zelda, Metroid, etc.  Every major franchise has been out and due to Nintendo's dumbass policy, outside of the last two, we only see one iteration per generation.  Mario Galaxy 2 would go great for a 2010 release.  All they have left is Mario Baseball 2.  I suppose they will release the obligatory Mario Golf and Tennis games but Nintendo has reached the bottom of the barrel quickly.

Another 4 years of rehashes while Sony and MS introduce new franchises and fun shit.
no offense, pd, but I swear that everytime you talk about nintendo, the wii, or nintendo fanboys, you seem like an angry, intense, betrayed puppy.   with deep, unresolved emotions

like crushed, except cynical and hateful.
