This game has some serious interface issues though, maybe you guys know what all this shit means but I don't.

Alignment? Spider thingy? Rune thingies? Why  does my skill screen say 'not mapped' all over, am I supposed to equip abilities to buttons?

I'm sure I can figure it out but I could use more than just those little intro instructionals.

Oh, I must give kudos to SK for allowing us to remove the HUD.  Not only should this be the standard in all games, but their HUD is exceptionally huge and intrusive so it's much appreciated.

Nothing is out.

I know you can redo your skill tree whenever you feel like it, but what about character class? Do you have to start from scratch every time you want to try another class?

yeah, nothing gets saved in the demo.

I mean in the retail version, how do they handle class switching?

I found the sliding distracting and silly-looking in the videos, but in the game I don't notice it.  I guess it's because I'm watching the enemies rather than the character's feet.

Yeah, pretty much.

Really, the only thing that REALLY bothers me is the stupid camera and the aiming system.

Also, the art is fucking ugly.

I like the environments, I think they look good, and the normal camera and aiming are not pissing me off at the moment.

But I desperately miss a good first person camera for looking around - their current look camera doesn't even fucking work in certain places which I find extremely annoying.  I'd trade SK's 'clever' cinematic camera for a simple first person camera any day.

Just ran through the demo as a Commando and it definitely suited my preferred playstyle.  Commando had a great little skill that dropped Baldur's spider to use as a mobile turret. Made for good times.

You make it seem like the rest of the game would be of the same quality when in fact Dyack himself thinks that there are shit levels in the game (he let it slip before realizing he said it).  Something called Ice Forest is apparently the worst level, but Dyack things there is one worse than even that.  So this 1/10th of the game is probably the best there is, if not one of the best.

I've always thought I'd buy the game regardless of the reviews but god damn if that demo didn't kill any interest I still had left for it.  I've played other games with the attacks assigned to the right stick and I've actually enjoyed some of them but not here.  For some reason I'm having a hard time coming to grips in TH that the right stick isn't the camera.   Being able to assign the face buttons or triggers those actions would be a dramatic improvement but it'd still leave a completely average/below average game in its wake.

The haters were right.

Also, it's fairly obvious that 4-player was cut because the engine couldn't handle it, not because of design decisions or whatever.  If there were enough mobs on screen for 4 players, the game would be at a crawl.  At the most hectic parts of the demo, there was a slight bit of slowdown even in single player.

There are youtube vids outlining how to do it. You can also play a class that is adjacent to one you have unlocked by selecting the locked class, tilting towards an unlocked one with the left analog, and tapping A really really fast.

So anyone getting this?  I don't think I will - I sort of like the game but in light of the incredible stuff coming out in the next few months a couple of things stop me:

1) Even though the gameplay is tons better than Eternal Darkness, I'm finding I'm having a similar problem - I just play mostly to see the next cutscene or area.

2) It lacks a (fairly thick) layer of polish.  For a studio that supposedly learnt a lot from Nintendo they didn't seem to learn that it's the little things that can make a good game stellar.  Such as the centering camera just not working at all at certain times (usually when your back is to a wall).  I was reminded of how in Galaxy a little icon appeared on screen showing you couldn't use the camera which was fine.  In TH sometimes I want to look around and I spend time moving Baldur a little and hitting center again hoping the camera might now center which is just annoying.

Overall I think the core game is decent but it needed another year in the oven (I don't think it would have made much difference realistically).

I have to play through it at some point, so that I can troll with credibility. Seriously. I gave Dyack a lot of shit about his choice of going with Norse mythology here, but I promised I'd give it a fair shake and check out the story. Maybe I'll have someone else come over and play it while I watch the whole story thing.  :-\

Seriously?  Just judging on what I've played of Too Human's demo I'd be willing to say that Eternal Darkness is miles and miles ahead as far as actual enjoyment is concerned.

It may just be me, but virtually the sole reason I played ED was to get to the next cutscene and see what happens next.  I remember making the comment to other people while I played it.

I find TH's gameplay mildly engaging, but I also find the environments enjoyable to look at (which is why I find the gimped look-around camera so annoying).  But I still get a similar feeling that the main draw for me is the cutscenes in spite of them being a bit awkward.

"tons" was probably not the right word.  I should have just said "it's better".

Well, I have to use them all nyway, for achievement. I'll probably go with Berzerker (the far left one) -- it basically said "slice shit up" and I like that. But I found myself using the guns a lot more when I was a Champion in the demo. Maybe I'll be a Commando (is that the gun one?)

Just played through the demo again, but this time as the Berserker and had fun.  It's one of those games where the more you play, the more you'll like it.  If it came out earlier in the year I probably would've bought it, but it's releasing right before the monster Fall line-up so it's gonna be a rental.

I've yet to die in the demo with any class. As long as you go straight for the guy shooting rockets and take him out first, you' have to try to die.

I did die a few times on the parts with the rocket guys, but I found myself having more trouble with the melee mini-bosses while in the commando class. I just think it's weird because my health never went below half when I played through as a champion, but I died several times in commando class.

I played the demo 3 times and I disliked it more as I went along.  I mean, if the secret hidden boss in that level is that easy to beat as a low level character with a lvl 1 sword, then I can't imagine the game even being worth it to grind around all that.

I played the demo a couple more times and my opinion has gone up slightly.

I've gone from thinking the game was total shit to possibly mediocre at best.  The level design is still barren, but the loot grabs are intriguing.  Still, I'm playing Titan Quest at the same time and Too Human pales heavily in terms of enemy design, level design, loot variety (debatable since this is a demo), and playability.  I might pick up the game down the road at 30 bucks or so.

Since my 360 got out of the repair shop I took time to really sink my teeth into the demo, and try out every class with a full playthrough.

Playing as berzerker is really fun and fast, and the loot system is not so bad but I still feel like this game has a ton of problems, several of which haven't been mentioned yet:

Most classes play exactly the same, class balance seems off -- Champion, Bionengineer, and Defender just feel like gimped versions of the Berzerker.  Sure they have more HP than the Berzerker, but this game has no death penalty so who gives a shit?  You might as well pick the class that deals damage that fastest and the hardest.  If you die, you start over again 10 feet away. Because there aren't a lot of unique skills and abilities, I don't see what will attract people to the slower and more clunky characters.

The "healer" is more like a gimped melee character with an occaisional heal -- Most of the Bioengineer's healing comes through very slow passive regeneration, and the active healing costs an entire level on your combo meter.  It's already questionable why you'd want a healer when the game is stuck in Free Play/Credit Feed mode, but it doesn't seem like you'll be able to do that much healing due to the large expense of the heals.   To put it in more conventional RPG terms he is a healer whose mana only regenerates through combat (where you'll take quite a few hits), and when he casts a heal it eats 1/3 of his base mana.

Commando plays a little different, but doesn't feel very fleshed out -- Enemies close in on you too quickly and in such large groups that's impossible to maintain any distance.  Grenades kind of help, but also eat up your ammo quickly.  Aiming at a specific target is difficult....you're kind of forced just to shoot whatever you're locked on to.  This is the only class where I died several times over the course of the demo.  In theory it should be okay to have a ranged DPS character without a lot of HP, but in practice he gets stuck in melee situations too much and has a bit of difficulty.

The loot pinatas are the same every time -- The reward obelisks for challenges and boss encounters spit out the same blue/purple objects no matter what class you choose or how many times you play through.  This is particularly a pain if you are a Commando, because the blue sword that the troll boss gives you is awesome for all the other melee characters, but useless for you.  My commando was still using a LVL 2-3 rifle when I completed the demo.

There aren't any potions -- So you're about to enter a "Challenge Arena", but the last encounter with enemies has you at low HP.  There is nothing you can do about it since there aren't any items to restore your health.  In this situation I tried running to the next room to either die or get a health drop off an enemy.  To my delight the game locked the door back to the previous area, so I was forced to skip the arenas altogether.

Challenge arenas seem biased -- The arenas generally challenge you to kill x number of enemies within 40 seconds.  Well that's all fine and good if you are an insanely fast damage dealer like the Berzerker or Champion.   What if your class is based around outlasting his foes (Defender, Bioengineer) or based around gaining distance and crowd control (Commando)?  I don't see how it's fair to expect them to take down enemy waves quickly because they weren't designed with that sort of utility in mind.  You can still get through the challenges as a support class, but it's much tougher and god help you if you don't have a full combo meter to let you use a bunch of ruiners.

Free Play Mode Kind of Breaks Things -- I've already mentioned several problems that come with the removal of a death penalty.....namely that it negates the need for anything but damage-dealing classes.  What incentive is there to play the game besides the most obvious and easy fashion?  Why bother with healers and aggro and strategies when you can just blaze through as a melee god?  They don't have to have a death penalty per se, but give me some reason to care about how much health I have.  Perhaps later on in the game they will introduce bosses and enemies with shields that regenerate while you are dead.....so you'll at least be forced to get through single encounters without dying.

THE GAME IS STILL PRETTY INTERESTING -- All this stuff aside, I think the very core of Too Human has some fun stuff to offer.  It's easy to go on forums and pick apart problems with the class design and game mechanics, but it's equally easy to jump in with the Berzerker and forget all those problems as you hammer your way from target to target, one-shotting everything as you move at 100 miles an hour.  At the demo's end I still want to see more loot and continue down the talent tree with my character.  I worry that this game won't have much longevity though, unless the other classes have something that really makes them worth playing.

Maybe.
