So honestly, how would you get excited for a game then? by reading incompetent 'journalist' attempt to write a review? Games are a medium where we can show them early and you are able to at least gauge them with an understanding. Movies have trailers, but you can't show someone the reel of something shot earlier that week and ask them to say how its coming along. It seems like you are able to grasp the concept of opinions in your post, although very with still judging the other spectrum a bit, but leave it at that.
I don't get excited for games much anymore. I'm at a point when I don't care. Maybe like 6-7 years ago I would be upset with no news, but really, I don't care anymore. Some of you act like its life or death. I'm pretty sure when the games come out, there will be ample previews and marketing for a few months, I just don't see the point in pumping stuff up not coming out until the end of next year. It's a vicious cycle.
Company releases hype CG/small gameplayer trailer in year one E3, and maybe some sporatic details over the next year. Then in year two E3 they release hands on impressions, and then release the game later that year. The thing is, in year two E3 when there's hands on of that game, it seems to not be as big a deal because it was "already announced last year" so a game in the year one CG/small gameplay stage is ridiculously hyped over it.
For example, take Resident Evil 5. They showed it last year, had a nice CG trailer and showed a little bit of stuff between this year and last; and this year there was GAMEPLAY, HANDS ON, everything. But what do people care? I don't see peopel saying "OMG RE 5 playable!! Megaton!!" Why? Because it was already shown, last year, with just a trailer. I guarantee if they didn't speak a word of this game up until today and no one knew it existed, THEN came out with the trailer, AND the hands on - it would have been a HUGEEE deal. But no, its not. You know why? The typical E3 hype cycle. I don't see why people keep clamoring for it, because the same damn thing happens over and over again. People want big announcements as soon as a game has a line of code written for it, even if its not released for two years, but its self destructive.
