Killzone 2 Badge System:

Rather than adhere to a rigid character class system, Killzone 2’s online mode allows the player to mix abilities from different roles to better suit his / her preferred style of play. Abilities are represented by badges: the primary badge defines the main role of the player character, as well as its outward appearance, while the secondary badge serves as a complementary ability that enhances the main role.

Although their player characters look different, both Helghast and ISA factions have the same set of roles and badges to choose from. Here they are, from left to right:

Rifleman:
The default multiplayer character is assigned when no primary badge is selected. A secondary badge may still be added. Riflemen can start with most weapons, except for the specialized ones.

Engineer:
Primary badge ability: Sets up an automated turret which targets the enemy.
Secondary badge ability: Repairs ammunition dispensers, mounted guns, and automated turrets.

Medic:
Primary badge ability: Revives downed team mates.
Secondary badge ability: Throws a health pack, which can be picked up by other players.

Scout:
Primary badge ability: Uses a cloaking suit to become near-invisible.
Secondary badge ability: Tags all on-screen enemy players with a hidden marker, which broadcasts their coordinates to team mates.
Assault:
Primary badge ability: Dons heavy armour twice as strong as normal.
Secondary badge ability: Temporarily boosts running speed.

Tactician:
Primary badge ability: Throws a coloured smoke grenade, which serves as a spawn point.
Secondary badge ability: Requests air support from a sentry bot which targets the enemy.

Saboteur:
Primary badge ability: Assumes the disguise of a randomly selected enemy player.
Secondary badge ability: Throws a sticky, proximity-activated C-4 charge.
ok now that is exciting.  that could really make for some interesting gameplay

Guys who made Crimson Skies are making a shooter called Dark Void which is based around a Jetpack.  You can even jack flying vehicles by flying to them and all this other shit.

And Infamous is utterly amazing.  Sony is stupid for not showing this for 20 minutes.  Basically Ass Creed with super powers in a real dynamic world where you can actually run into other people with powers in the world and fight them right then and there.  The entire idea behind how you get your power and basically are weak when you are in areas without electricity is also awesome.  Only bad thing is his running animation.

Missed most of this footage though. :(

Speaking of which, is the trailer up on PSN yet?

So they have every trailer except the Infamous one on PSN. :(

Killzone 2 looks fucking sick though, once you get past the lame opening. The game world feels like such a complete, designed vision when compared to something like, I'm sorry to say, Resistance 2. Certainly still not sold on the game as such, but the presentation, everything from colors and composition to symbolism, it's so damned balanced and spot on. Now let's see how they handle something other than industry.

Much like with Gears 2, the artists should be publicly celebrated.

It has nothing to do with SCEJ. It's from Studio BONES (RahXephon, Full Metal Alchemist, Eureka Seven, Wolf's Rain, Scrapped Princess). Xamdou was going to be on TV over in Japan, but it's apparently become a PSN exclusive.

BONES made the show, but they couldn't work out a television deal. Sony must have stepped in and offered up their support.

Previous years Gamespot would reupload their videos, so who knows if they will this year or not.  For Rock Band 2 they just have a 30 second gameplay video.

Also there is a Prince of Persia stage demo coming up this hour.

Frantic and fun, Fat Princess pits two hordes of players against each other in comic medieval battle royale. Your goal is to rescue your beloved princess from the enemy dungeon. There’s a catch though: your adversary has been stuffing her with food to fatten her up and it’s going to take most of your army working together to carry her back across the battlefield.

You can switch between five different character classes literally at the drop of a hat: the fearless Warrior, the steadfast Archer, the mystical Mage, the tireless Worker, and the deadly Priest. In order to triumph, players must combine their skills and work together. The name of the game is cooperation, whether it’s helping another player drag a log back to your castle, manning a battering ram to smash through the enemy’s front gate, or building a human pyramid to scramble over the walls.

the more details that come out the more i'm left scratching my head as to why Sony didn't flesh out the game footage instead of peddling the power of cell thing. :/

the elements were there, they just didn't bother putting the pieces together.

We agree on something, imagine that. Sony isn't lacking content to showcase at this point, so the format of the briefing was very puzzling. Even only one or two more game demonstrations, or extended trailers, would have added a lot to the event. It felt more like a pre-launch event than anything. And then it ended with a "look at what we can probably do, at some point in the future!"

nintendo used to do this

you just pay attention to the media during the conference and then release games in your press kit. nintendo did it with super paper mario, for example.

The way I figure it, really for all parties, is that the conferences are geared more and more to the mainstream media that cares about all the crap that, well, we just don't care about. The platform holders realize the hardcore will still find the information they're looking for, so why highlight it in front of all the media outlets that positively will not care?

Talk about the million sellers and other games that may enter the public vernacular, and leave the rest to Gametrailers.

It certainly is, but I am skeptical about how well the controls will work. I've played FPS and 3PS before on the PSP and they just leave me desiring a second analog nub. Star Wars Battlefront probably had the best control scheme, but I guess I would have preferred an isometric shooter or something more suited to the platform.

It sounds like that they are doing is pretty good now.  You have a large vision field, but then it locks onto enemies in that field.  You still have to aim around and use cover effectively so it doesn't make it too easy.  Weapons like the rocket launcher seem like you really need to aim them.

I just found out that the "80GB with 40GB functionality" means that it won't support BC emulation. Why would Sony do that, when they have arguably the greatest library of games ever in the PS2 era? This really throws a wrench into my plans of obtaining a PS3 sometime this year.
