aka. what are you playing this weekend?

slamming some more Etrian 2 before bed.... almost finished Metroid Prime 3, scared of Valkyrie Profile 2 (its tough!), and still leaving my 360 on for Blue Dragon (fuck those achievements, only 2 classes to go for each character though :rock)

How do you like it? I've got a copy sealed since 2002, thinking of cracking it open and playing after finishing up this latest crop of games.

I'm playing:

Ninja Gaiden II - up to chapter 10 on warrior, all my weapons are at level 3. Vigoorian Flail and Eclipse Scythe are the best. Chapter 8 was the worst.

Virtua Fighter 5 Online - beating my cousin's ass in this, Pai and Sarah are my favorites right now

Dead or Alive 4 - same cousin is actually a challenge in this, Ayane and La Mariposa are my best

Call of Duty 4 - up to All Ghillied Up on hardened difficulty, play online sometimes

Trauma Center: New Blood - on the last mission in co-op mode with my cousin

Team Fortress 2 - i still suck, but i feel like im getting a little better

Advance Wars: Days of Ruin - up to the 9th campaign mission

Katamari Damacy - Beat the 1.5 meter stage yesterday, I can pick up people now!

Persona 3

I've almost finished it. 80 hours dumped into it, fusing the final persona fusion weapons and trying to get the final personas but some require up to 9 more levels :(

I may just finish fusing weapons, get a few more levels then end it. Ill probably take a break before playing Persona 3: The Answer included in Persona FES.

Ys II PC is fun as hell. Have you had a chance to play Ys Oath yet or are you going through the series one by one?

Here's what I'm playing:

Wild Arms XF - Almost done with Act 1 and am really enjoying it. It's good to see a strategy game that requires me to think. Nice and tough, just the way I like it.

Mega Man and Bass- The only of the classic Mega Mans I haven't finished. I didn't like it when I first played it years ago but my opinion of it has changed a bit now I'm attempting a one-life runthrough of this. It's easily the hardest of the classic series (f' you Astro Man and your barrage of immortal attacks).

Eternal Sonata- Yeah, I know. It's been stuck in the plastic for months now so I decided to finally give it a whirl. Doing a couple of thing to improve my enjoyment of the game. First thing I did was turn off the voices completely. The second thing I'm doing is running past most of the battles just to make the later encounters more challenging.

Pocky and Rock...err Heavenly Guardian- Found this for $15 and I remember enjoying the P&R series so I thought I'd give this a shot.

Well, I own I and II Complete, Oath, and Origin... finished 1 just now, gonna go through II complete next, and then onto Oath. Gonna wait for a translation patch to attempt Origin, although from what I hear, Origin isn't that great.

I need to go through Mask of the Sun one of these days, and then eventually Ys 5 when the translation is finished. Gonna try and complete every Ys game.

Origin's combat is pretty good and a slight evolution to Oath's but the world scope is a massive downgrade. Staying stuck in the tower instead of exploring the world was a bad idea. It's still fun but it is nowhere near Oath's awesomeness.

Just got done with Act 1-6 which involved poisonous swamps and mages in high up locations where I couldn't reached them. I screwed up in choosing some of my classes but managed to beat it with one turn left before my doom (all but one mage had their SP depleted, health items gone, my dog dead, and the one mage had a sliver of health left). It's been a while since I've had a SRPG kick me in the balls like this.

Haven't touched it yet. I'll be playing it some tonight after I get off of work.

Ok I played through a little bit of it. It's what you'd expect out of a $15 retail game. 4:3, no classic controller support, no online leaderboards (but the instruction booklet is in color!). There's a two player mode and a boss mode and that's it. The game is a little tough but that's mostly due to cheap hits from enemies popping out of nowhere and the awkward Wii controller.

It somewhat feels like Pocky and Rocky but I felt those games were laid out better than this one. In P&R the levels were tight and varied. The level I played in HG was pretty big and a little open which isn't bad but didn't seem as fun to navigate as P&R. Also the game's look was borderline flash game which made it less interesting to look at.

I had some mild fun with it but it isn't something that gets me anxious to hook up my Wii and play again anytime soon. I'm sure it will be more enjoyable with 2 players. Had it been a downloadable game with dual analogue support and online play I'd say definitely go for it, but as of right now it's just average shovelware.

man I havent played Doom II since the 486 days...

Its really amazing to play it on a client that lets you control it like a normal FPS and look in all directions.

The dbl barrel shotgun is really a nice addition over Doom and gives me a major hardon.

Doomday engine :bow :bow :bow

It works with Doom WADS and Heretic / Hexen. - displays them in full widescreen upscaled with GL effects....

Playing Hexen again for the first time in x years almost made me blow major loads too...

The super shotgun from DOOM 2 remains my favorite FPS weapon of all time.

I just find it perfect. I find the concept of it perfect. It is sort of like a melee weapon, because you have to be literally in front of whatever you're shooting to do maximum damage. But oh my, what damage you do.

Now, normally you'd think that's a huge disadvantage. Most of the monsters are more dangerous up close, if for no other reason that it makes dodging their projectiles much harder. You'd THINK that this means the super shotgun is a bad weapon. But no. AFAIK, there has never been a faster FPS protagonist than the DOOM guy. He has to be running at around 30mph. Because you're so Goddamn fast, using the SS becomes this intricate dance, where you zip into a bad guys face, unload massive damage, and zip away again before he can retaliate.

It's the most satisfying shooting mechanic I can think of. I just love it.
