720p looks fine.

Well, as long as your TV is 720p also.  On my 58" plasma, the difference between 720p and 1080P is pretty obvious.  Flat panels just suck at scaling, compared to CRTs.

Yeah, I am running it at 720p on my 1080p tv and it looks amazing.  I don't know if this or VF5 is better graphically.

You can force VF5 to upscale to 1080P also but it looks all weird compared to the native 720P mode.

Oh, and yeah, Hilde is awesome.  I played as her for a bit and she is surprisingly good.  Charging up the spear and unleashing it after a flurry of short sword and kicking attacks is awesome.

Did anyone try Hori's fighting stick for the 360?  How is it?

I'm thinking of getting one as a stop gap solution until I can find a HRAP or good custom stick.

Yeah, she's my new main. But she has a lot of problems vs 8-way at longer ranges and up close there are characters that can totally monopolize the space. I've had the AI so easily sidestep the longer spear attacks and she takes a second longer to recover than I would like ;)

She still has some great short-range moves thanks to some great fast short sword attacks and solid kick attacks, but really keeping the enemy in midrange allows her to deal massive pain.

If it is the same as the PS3 one, then it is passable, but not nearly as good as a a HRAP or VSHG.  It is better than playing with a controller at least.  I create characters using the controllers and when I need to test them out, it always feels really awkward playing with it.

I have the PS3 stick.  It's kinda crap.  I'd rather use the Tekken 5 10th anniversary stick, which is still not quite as good as a HRAP.

Is there someplace that sells a custom stick that works for both the PS3 and 360?  I like what arcadeinabox is selling but $150-200 is kinda expensive for a stick that only works with one system.

if you can open your 360 controller, there is an easy fix for the dpad.

http://www.gamersyde.com/forum_33_27677_1_en.html

no sanding needed, just put a pringles can lid or something like it under the dpad and you are good to go.

I think the good part of an arcade stick isn't really the stick, but comfortable access to all the responsive face buttons at once.  I would say that I am actually better at pulling on specific moves and things with my saturn controller than I am with a stick, but having all 6 buttons there makes it much easier to play.  An example is when playing with Taxi and I wanted to do the move where she jumps of you, I would need to somehow press square and circle at the same time, but on the arcade stick since I am using fingers and not my thumb, I am able to do combinations easily.

i've been using my stick i built and am loving it.  x+triangle is easy enough to do with the thumb but i have to use the claw method to do square+O with a pad.

vf5 was one of the first ps3 games to upscale, and it actually renders at a lower resolution in its forced 1080p mode. there's really nothing magical about upscaling, and a 360, your tv, or a recent, well-coded ps3 game will all do a very similar job of interpolating and filtering. the 360's universal scaling is useful if your tv's scaler is particularly laggy, i guess

just played a couple quick ranked matches, and they were really smooth for me -- i wasn't expecting much at all. the last 3d fighter i tried online was doa4 circa launch, and that was in slow motion most of the time. maybe this isn't good enough for serious players, but i'm a highly unserious player

i pwned some dude's cervantes with my fagbag custom character :punch

then i got pwned by some dude's ziggy :'(

the game looks pretty good. the backgrounds are kinda eh but the characters are nice.

i don't think it's very well balanced, but it's fun. I wish it had a real vf4 evo style training mode. I'm waiting for all fighting games to have a mode that really teaches you how to play. I bet SF4 will have something like that.

Played a few games online. I'm rusty, but  had fun.

Played better than expected over wifi, but I'll probably hook it up through a cable this weekend. Guard impacting failed me more than it should have, and it's easier to just blame the lag.  :lol

oh -- there's the game-breaking lag people were talking about. i guess i got lucky with those first couple matches, cos i've now had some really unplayably bad ones, and a well-rated connection doesn't guarantee much. some good ones too, but...yeah

also i have no idea how to play taki. her moves are really cool, and she's fun to use in single player, but i just get fucked by characters who hit harder with much longer weapons

when messing around with hilde, i couldn't really find any good horizontal ranged attacks.  felt like she could only stab long range, which was messed up with the slightest side step.

I just picked up the PS3 version.  Haven't done too much with it so far other than play a few rounds of story mode with a couple characters and attepted to make my own.  I noticed how easy it was to make a guy look exactly like Sawyer from Lost which made me think about trying to some other people from the show.  Up next - Locke.

well playing the two versions i'm gonna go with 360 on this one. it simply looks better when upscaled (ps3 version looks kinda fugly forcing it to upscale).

also, both vader and yoda suck ass. i have no idea why anyone would engage in an argument as to which one is better.

now i just need a better controller. sanding did help a bit but it's still not ideal.

Put me into the "360 version is better" camp.  I played the PS3 version all last night, unlocking stuff and messing around.  This morning I hooked up my 360 (just moved) and tried the game out, and there is a noticeable difference.  The 360 version looks a little better (cleaner picture) and DEFINITELY loads faster (and yes, I installed data on my PS3).  It's also nice that you can unlock all the stock characters in like 10 minutes.  Unlocking everyone doesn't take that much time either.  I'm glad it doesn't take forever; I hate unlocking characters in general but this felt relatively painless.  Now to do it again on 360.

Vader is okay I guess.  He's better than Yoda, who is just WEIRD.  Apprentice seems kinda cool, but I don't want fucking Star Wars characters in Namco fighting games.  Sure this is better than Spawn, but not by too much.

I see DLC is already up too.  You can buy old songs and some custom parts from the original SC.

Man, the Star Wars shit kinda ruins arcade mode.  Both Yoda and The Apprentice are so cheap (and in the case of the Apprentice, way overpowered) that it ruins the flow of the game.

I'm also kinda pissed that there is no tag team option for vs player.  Why is it only in story mode?  That's so fucking distinguished mentally-challenged.
