no loading times in arcade, 5-7 seconds in multi-character story mode fights

360 also gets better rez (for 1080p folks), 2xAA, more effects, no slowdown on ice stage

I made a JAPAHILDE alternative, its so hard to beat the 1st costume tho.

my custom Cervantes.  obviously a quick job.

edit: thank god they have japanese voices.  i muted the voices in SC3 and i would have done the same with SC4.  english voice acting is another aspect of soul calibur that just fails super hard.

I have an addiction to this character creator.  I already made most of the main cast from Berserk (Guts, Caska, Griffith, Zodd) and I just want to make more.  I need more parts, but I would actually have to play to do that.

The boss on the second floor-set of the tower has awesome armor too.

Yeah, but it is all a trick.  It seems like a lot, but 90% of the ones for female fighters are sex up costumes while 90% for male fighters are armor sets.  I want more costumes for the men!

I played a lot as the apprentice, who is awesome, and some of Vader (and Yoda on a friends game) and both of them are horrible.  I will try her tomorrow or something.  I can't think of a character in popular media that uses her weapon so that I can copy them.

In games like this, it's all about the compulsive collecting rather than the usefulness of the actual unlocked items.  I will never use 349 of the things I unlock.

You have to use either Yoda or Vader to beat him.

It is both really hard and really is with Vader since you can place his throw perfectly to toss the apprentice off the stage, but if you want to play fair it is a bit tough.

Because it seems like they really ramp up the difficulty against the Apprentice when you reach him.  Everything up to him was easy, even the final enemy after him was easy, but he is a bitch.  He has combos where he would fly in the air and shoot lightening down at you, then toss his light saber and make a force bubble appear on the ground, then he could pull you closer using the force and do this really strong grab move.

I don't think so, but the stage is more or less boxed off except for one far ledge.  I did beat him by Vader tossing him off the stage, but that depended on Vader's awesome throw (basically the same one he used on the Emperor in ROTJ)

i usually just take it for granted when i buy a fighting game that the story and voice acting will be fuckawful, i don't expect a well thought-out plot or meaningful dialogue from games that have women in panties fighting to the death against dudes with mouths in their chest

but i don't really mind this story, it's about as simple as it gets

i mean, they all want the swords, to either own them or destroy them or walk away from them, and that's about it

sort of wish i'd bought this on 360 now, since everyone else did, but then again no one on here ever plays me online lol

they probably could have given vader a few original lines instead of just sampling from the movies

I've been playing with Japanese voices, and I am disgusted that Yoda does not try to emulate his inverted speech pattern in the game.  He sounds just like every other Japanese speaker.

360 also gets better rez (for 1080p folks), 2xAA, more effects, no slowdown on ice stage

nah -- per b3d it renders at something like 1360x960, but it hasn't got any aa, just a full screen blur. and apparently it's scaling twice if you output 1080p, i.e. down to 720p and then up again. the 360 version has a slight technical edge, but the unblurred ps3 version looks better...and this is the first i've heard about differing effects

That's right, it does not use AA.  There was also a mistake early on with a PS3 comparison where earlier PS3 shots were used.  The final game looks exactly the same on both systems.  What I'm uncertain of is whether or not the PS3 version will upscale.  By default, it uses 1280x720 mode.  They both have very similar image quality and look great.

I don't know where the "more effects" claim comes from, though.  I'll have to test for slowdown on the ice stage as well, but I encountered none during play on PS3.

Speaking of res, why DOES the PS3 often run games on my 1080p TV at 720p.

Xbox 360 always upscales to 1080p.

hey, i'm just parroting the word from quaz, which is apparently old and now incorrect

although the ps3 still has ice stage slowdown when someone is up against one of the walls, and the full-screen fire distortion effect on one of the "heat" stages is clumsier

Just stick to 720p if there's no native 1080p support.  The PS3 sucks at upscaling (it can't do a full 1920x1080 upscale).  There're also performance hits in some games when you force it to upscale to 1080P with Drohne's method.
