OSU vs UM

OSU definitely has the advantage offensively, but Michigan has the advantage defensively where it's not close. Troy Smith will have a good game regardless, but I don't expect him to totally run over us like last year: this is a new defense. Expect them to take some HARD hits they haven't witnessed all season.

UM 27
OSU 23

OSU: 42
UM: 39

Good game, good game. Definitely have to give congrats to OSU here: they played a great game and deserved to win. Troy Smith is the Heismann, end of story; fuck Brady Quinn.

But this was an amazing, amazing game all around. Despite Michigan losing, this was the best game I've seen in years; I wish I could have gone to see it, and I can't wait for blackAcid to get back and post her experience there.

As a Michigan fan, I can't be bitter. Both teams played hard, and this was a classic game. Michigan made some mistakes, and I think Carr made more than a couple coaching mistakes. I'll save the complaining for a later post, but let's just say Mike Hart should have gotten the ball much more in the late third/early fourth quarter.

Alas, we might see a rematch for the championship. If Notre Dame beats USC next week there could be a chance that OSU and UM play again for teh championship. I hope that happens, even if I have to cheer for Notre Dame.

Once again, good game. I'm proud of Michigan.

Crable :(

I would hate to be him right now. That turned the tide, but Carr's play calling really baffled me. Mike Hart was really tearing through OSU's DL in the third and fourth quarter, but they stopped handing him the ball. I still can't believe they tried a passing play on third and goal in the fourth. Wow. I love Carr, but come on.

Another problem was our inability to capitolize on turnovers. OSU had three big turnovers (INT and two fumbles), all of which we in or near their territory, yet we never got a TD off them. Unbelieveable.

But like I said, congradulations to OSU. There's no shame in losing a game like this, to a great team like OSU. And if Notre Dame magically gets into the championship, you better believe I'll be cheering for the Buckeyes.

I'm an OSU guy, and I thought that call on Crable was borderline.

I was laughing at Lloyd Carr. He has that awesome back Hart and refused to use him at important times of the game. WTF with Henne holding the ball for so long, like 4 times?

Honestly, if OSU didn't lose the ball 3 times, the game would have been a blowout. Such a bizarre game. OSU loses the turnover battle, they break off 2 +50 yd runs on the #1 defense, then they almost give the game back in the end.

Yeah, I don't understand the Hart thing. He was being contained in the first half, but once the third quarter started he couldn't be stopped. On third and 3 when you're down, you run the ball, ESPECIALLY when you have a guy like Hart. Terrible coaching decision there.

OH SNAPS

Michigan is still #2!

Quote
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- For now, the BCS numbers add up to an Ohio State-Michigan rematch for the national championship. But Southern California could prevent that with two more victories.

Michigan was impressive enough in a 42-39 loss to the Buckeyes to retain second place in the Bowl Championship Series standings released Sunday, by a slim margin over USC.

"I'm not surprised," Ohio State coach Jim Tressel said of Michigan retaining second place. "The pollsters had to be impressed with the way [Michigan] has played."

Michigan's BCS average was .926. The Trojans, who have two games left, were at .919.

"It'll be interesting to see how it comes out," Tressel told Fox television.

The No. 1 Buckeyes locked up a spot in the BCS title game Jan. 8 in Arizona with their victory over the Wolverines on Saturday, their 19th straight overall. They also became the first team to have a perfect score of 1.000 under the BCS formula introduced in 2004. Ohio State is a unanimous No. 1 in all the polls and the best team in the country according to the BCS computer ratings.

Florida was in fourth place in the BCS standings with an average of .884, followed by Notre Dame (.820), which plays at USC on Saturday. Arkansas (.807) was sixth. The Razorbacks and Gators meet in the Southeastern Conference title game on Dec. 2.

Michigan's regular season is complete, so the Wolverines can do nothing but watch what happens to USC and the other contenders over the next two weeks.

The Trojans, who beat Cal 23-9 on Saturday to lock up the Pac-10's automatic BCS bid, passed Michigan and moved up to No. 2 in both the coaches' poll and the Harris poll. The polls count for two-thirds of a team's BCS average. Michigan remained second in the computer ratings that account for the other third of the BCS average.

USC is third in the computers, a mark that should get a boost if the Trojans can knock off a highly rated Notre Dame team and crosstown rival UCLA the following week.

It appears Michigan needs USC to lose to get another crack at Ohio State. But that could open an opportunity for the SEC champion if either the Gators or Razorbacks win their final two games.

Unbeaten Boise State moved up to 11th place. With one more victory in their season finale at Nevada, the Broncos will become the second team from a conference without an automatic bid to reach the BCS.

If USC loses next week we'll have a rematch with OSU for the title :hyper
