To be fair, I've only really seen Fort Garry, which is a spread out suburb full of strip malls, industrial parks, and ugly low rise apartment building. It's not going to be fun walking 40 minutes to the law building in minus 30 weather.

At least the campus is nice. Why can't cities look more like university campuses. (maybe I should move to Europe.)

Canada only has a few decent cities*:

Montreal, parts of Ottawa, Kingston, and Vancouver--if you're a hippie who likes to live in cramped condos

Stay away from all other Canadian cities, especially Brampton.

*Burlington is a decent suburb

Anyway, I doubt Winnipeg is much worse than Halifax. I kind of thought Halifax was shithole too when I first started dental school at Dal. The truth is that you get so busy that you forget all about it. And making friends in grad school makes it so much better since they can show you all the cool parts of the city.

You pretty much nailed it in your OP, though. Canada doesn't have a lot of great cities outside of the ones you listed. I'd love to specialize or work in Montreal if I get the chance. I would imagine that it would be kind of hard though since Halifax is home to me.

Since I can't speak French fluently, I couldn't work in Quebec as a lawyer. Would not like the provincial income tax anyway.

Halifax isn't that bad, CurseoftheGods. It's probably the best city in the East Coast. Not like that's saying anything.

The campus is nice.  If you want to see the other nice part of the city, head to the Forks.  After that, good luck.  It's a really shitty, depressing city.  Stay out of the North End.  If you've hit Ellice, you've gone too far.

Yeah, I'm going to the law school here. And the campus is indeed nice, with the exception of some of the science buildings.

I think this is correct. But, not to sound like Jotaro, bad architecture, bland strip malls, and ugly people affect me. Yeah, I'm going to be miserable no matter where I am, but there are different levels of misery.

Nah, the small downtown area is Osborne Village.  It's an alright place if you like your culture a bit hipster.  The Forks is the big park/tourist trap by the riverside.  If you're riding the buses, you want to take a 60 Pembina to Graham Ave, then take one of the free shuttles (a number 1 or 2 will suffice) to the Forks.  It's really nice in the summer.

If you aren't on public transit, just drive up Pembina to Confusion Corner, head into the Village, go over the bridge, then head right down Broadway.  When you see the old CP Rail building, you're pretty much there.
