The funny thing is that the Dems will definitely add to their lead in the Senate by like 5 seats at least, and probably add in the House too.  I personally still think that the massive investment Obama is making in the ground game is not showing up in polls and that he'll still beat McCain this November, but yeah, it's not looking great right now.  Never underestimate the stupidity of Americans, etc etc.

Not too worried about the polls, still to early to get too worked up about it. Check again in five weeks and then I'll be getting worried if it is the same situation.

as for foc, the only real solution to dealing with libertarians in poltics threads is termination of any posting privlidges. Let's face it-given the choice between intelligent discourse rooted in reality and free speech, free speech sucks ass in comparison.

This poll has only confirmed what I've sensed since the end of Obama's foriegn policy trip.

There is a huge experience gap for Obama that is going to be difficult to overcome. Hillary could have won if she had exploited it earlier than she did with the 3 am phone call ads before the TX and OH primaries. Plus McCain has a great knack for setting the daily discourse.

That said, there's still a long way to go. Anything can happen. But, I've moved from thinking that even a reincarnated Reagan couldn't win to believing McCain has a real shot at this electorally (not popularly). Heck...I'm even reconsidering my objection to voting for him.

that's a broad stereotype-I'm not a dirty fucking hippie. I'm not at all tolerant of people with different political beliefs, but recognize that the coexistence of oppposing opinions at the base day-to-day level is essential for the functioning of a modern society, as much as it actually displeases me to see idiots and fools with their vain virtues and idols standing in the way of human progress.

However, that coexistence is completely unecessary in this message board microsociety. Your account should be IP banned for a week every time you take a dump in a political thread-think of it as sort of like housebreaking for the digital era.

What's that? All I heard was "I cant take criticism and different opinions."

I don't mind criticism and different opinions when they actually have merit. Invariably, yours do not, they are intellectually and completely bankrupt, rooted in a bubbleboy fantasyland where anything can be true when you make enough batshit insane assumptions, not unlike the religious fundamentalists I detest so much.

I actually sometimes enjoy reasoned mainstream conservative criticism from time to time, as even a broken clock shows the right time twice a day so they say. Unfortunately, you're more of a different kind of broken clock-an LED clock radio that's been unplugged, so you don't even tell the time period.

I called it but I wish I was wrong:

Obama is the Dukakis of 2008.  The worst thing is that one side is running a non campaign (McCain) while Obama is stumping his ass off and getting nowhere.  This is bad.  I'm guessing the Republicans have circled their wagons and decided begrudgingly that McCain is going to be the nominee.  So now all the right wing base is coming out in his support, instead of fence sitting or wondering if a third party candidate, like Huckabee, will run.

The upside here is that the Democrats will have both the Senate and the House.  So McCain and his crew can't run around buck wild like Bush and Cheney did after 2002.

I think the most disappointing thing about McCain as president is that Americans are possibly THAT stupid

The reason is that most of the problems have not affected middle class Americans, who are the bulk of the votes.

The war is not real to them; they probably will never have a son or daughter enlist.  They may know of a cousin or a nephew somewhere who is stationed in Iraq but they have no immediate family so it doesn't register much in their minds.  There are some suburban communities where there are absolutely no citizens who are in the military.

The debt is not real to them.  They think America is still #1 (in what, who knows) and that the $9 trillion debt doesn't mean shit.  After all, they can still buy that new Bravia so why the fuck would they care about national debt?  Times may be getting tighter but many middle class Americans are still able to buy a lot of shit and not have to worry if their job is getting shipped overseas or just being cut altogether.

Most middle class Americans don't give a fuck about civil liberties either.  They never cared to use them before so they have no objections giving them up.

In short, McCain is doing well because Bush is looked at as a failure but that doesn't mean Americans are ready for an Obama.  They want a Republican who will still lie to them but will pull them out of the Iraq jam but not so Rush Limbaugh and Pat Robertson will bitch about it afterwards.  This is prime Obama time and he is struggling.  His lead gap is narrowing and will probably be gone in 2-3 weeks.  Then you have the debates which might put them neck and neck again but neck and neck is not good enough to secure a victory.

If I had to bet I'd say Obama will be blown out (Ohio, Florida, Virginia, Colorado for McCain). The fact that he's made no ground despite trying to paint McCain as Bush III is most telling. Dem control of the senate/congress will get larger though, but I doubt that will mean anything but nothing getting done with McCain as president.

Well thank the God I don't even believe in, now that you've said that I think we can expect Obama to cruise to victory while carrying Ohio, Virginia and Colorado.  But not Floridia, because fuck Floridia.

Too much wringing of the hands and gnashing of the teeth is happening on the mean political e-streets for my tastes these days.  People are acting like they thought this would be a fucking cakewalk and there wouldn't be trying times.  Bunch of fucking whiners, if you ask me.  What everyone needs to do is get their lazy ass friends that always bitch about Bush but don't bother voting to get their asses registered and to the polls in November.  The Republicans would get crushed like the bitches they are if that happened, and I think it will.

I will say though, that after all the colossally DUMB shit that the GOP in general and this Administration has done in particular over the past 8 years or so, if McCain wins then Americans really ARE a bunch of ignorant fucking galoots.  Like, FoC level dumb, and I for one shudder to think that a majority of the country is THAT FUCKING DUMB, because that dude is one ignorant distinguished mentally-challenged fellow, but there you go!

It's too easy for Pubs to twist his words against him, he's just trying to cover his ass. It's bad enough he's a black dude running for presidency in America for most people, but saying things that get twisted around on Conservative news stations don't help his chances.

Er you have more hope than me Triumph; I'm seriously starting to think this is a done deal. Obama's entire fucking message is not working. McCain was basically throwing darts at the wall for a month before something stuck: celebrity/energy/experience. Almost the exact same thing Hillary tried, although McCain's camp obviously learned a couple pointers.

McCain is the biggest fucking phony we've seen in some time (well except for Edwards). Yet despite being a total GOP bitch to the T, he's perceived as this wonderful maverick who transcends politics. Transcends, remember that word? It no longer applies to Obama who's now another politician. He lost his smile
