Guys, the more I listen, the more I think that Bill is going SO over the top that he’s making it obvious.

This is getting amusing. He knows the fool is going to lose, so he is saying, "Oh, yeah he walks on water and cured cancer!”

It’s almost funny. Deniable mockery. He is calling attention to the VERY areas where everyone knows Obama is weak.

Clinton's speech was a perfectly delivered punch to the face. There's no way for the GOP to spin that.

Biden's speech was magnificent. The speech made up for the lack of great one liners with a moving measure of humanity, populism, and honesty. A speech aimed directly at the men and women who struggle to raise families and pay their bills. Perhaps it's appropriate that Obama accept the nomination tomorrow in an ancient Greek setting because Biden truly threw down the gauntlet. I'm sure the McCain camp was watching the Clinton speech, looking for any minor negative to use tomorrow to attack Obama, but instead they're faced with the impossible task of choosing a VP choice to contend with a man who can go toe to toe with anyone they throw at him.

Overall the 9-11pm (est) segment was a perfect mixture of past and future. Clinton reminded people of just what we had lost - and in hindsight how unimportant his impeachment fiasco really was. I don't possibly see the GOP competing with this

Pretty much cuts the legs out from the DEMs. But, we'll still probably hear doom and gloom tonight.

that's what all the fuss was about

It doesn't look like "an ancient Greek temple" at all. It's a tiny bit overdone, and the podium on the raised step platform is pretty tacky when paired with it, but that's it. It looks like the backdrop for a college graduation.

Wow @ http://www.hillaryis44.org

Anyone who is convinced Hillary not being nominee is some kind of setback to female rights, an insult to sufferage, or that it warrants sitting at home and not voting is a fucking moron. Please tell me these people are a batshit insane minority. At the end of the day, you still have a say in who runs the country. After this last 8 years, if I were American, I'd want to be having that say.

If Republicans are really committed to their GDP fetish then they are more than welcome to hammer that number throughout their convention and see if it convinces people that we're living in economic good times.

After which you can also tell them that they have health insurance.

Quote from: Dallas Morning News
But the numbers are misleading, said John Goodman, president of the National Center for Policy Analysis, a right-leaning Dallas-based think tank. Mr. Goodman, who helped craft Sen. John McCain's health care policy, said anyone with access to an emergency room effectively has insurance, albeit the government acts as the payer of last resort. (Hospital emergency rooms by law cannot turn away a patient in need of immediate care.)

"So I have a solution. And it will cost not one thin dime," Mr. Goodman said. "The next president of the United States should sign an executive order requiring the Census Bureau to cease and desist from describing any American – even illegal aliens – as uninsured. Instead, the bureau should categorize people according to the likely source of payment should they need care.

"So, there you have it. Voila! Problem solved."

You can't throw words around like "recession" because people will behave as rational people do during recessions: save and cut back.  A lot of interests are content on people continuing to build up debt and drive right off the cliff.  At least by then, executives can have their golden parachutes prepared and ready to leave the company with a fat sack of cash and stock options.

My roommate works as an engineer at a railroad company and orders to transport goods have dropped off to an almost worrying level.  Given the cost of gas, it isn't like large quantities of goods are being shipped on trucks or planes.  So what is happening is that the demand for goods is going down because people can no longer afford them or afford to take the risk of selling them.  So yeah, there is an economic downturn going on, whether anyone wants to admit it or not.

Best overall speech of the convention. Everything that came before was essentially added together, perfectly in unity and clarity. I don't think it was as good as the 2004 speech but only because it didn't dwell on the inspirational, emotion writing. This was a policy speech. This was an introduction speech. No one could watch that and still wonder who Obama is, or what he will do as president.

Perfectly delivered.

PUMA meltdown, they have no idea how to respond; long pauses where they simply couldn't say anything but made idle chit-chat by discussing blog reports about how Obama's a terrorist, or a dozen people quickly trying to downplay any high notes by making wildly contradictory comments, followed by "Joe Blogger won't like this, America is going to be turned off."

apparently the policies in his speech were stolen from hillary, yet the policies in his speech are stupid, but he didn't even mention any policies at all, it was just fluff

and it's the worst speech ever delivered by an american politician and he's not an american citizen and he's hitler and he's stalin and michelle is dressed like a slut and and and and

...and it's done. I wonder if the GOP was actually betting on it being just fancy rhetoric, because the response from the McCain camp is really half-baked and seems unprepared; it's essentially "Well, that was misleading, because the fact remains: he opposes Republican policies."

You know, it's gotta simultaneously suck and rule to be a Republican.  On the one hand, you have no ideas on how to do anything other than appeal to people's base fears.  On the other, it constantly seems to work.

I've decided that this is America's Political Ragnarok.  There is no sitting on the sidelines.  I don't care who you fight for, but by Odin's raven you ARE fighting.  And if America fucks this one up the only solution is going to be getting rid of the illusion of our democracy and putting REAL shitheels in charge, like maybe TVC and myself.

I'm biased yes, but I can't possibly see how the RNC can compete with what I witnessed this week. The media has tried their best to downplay the entire event but from the first day to today it was great. Whether Obama wins or loses in November his campaign did the right thing by making the first day biographical in nature; it wasn't a "wasted" day and ratings show that things only increased after the first day, suggesting people were interested enough to continue tuning in. From Kennedy's emotional appeal to Hillary's battle cry...seriously, what do the republicans have to contend with that?

Bush, Cheney, and Rudy will parade around on their first day attempting to scare people. That is, unless the hurricane gives Bush and company a convenient excuse to skip the event. Then there's Arnold who's in trouble in California...uhhh who else. Conventions don't win elections but damn, the RNC just might be a disaster.

The RNC probably shouldn't try to scare if the public approves of the DNC.  Trying to scare makes them easy to be painted as desperate (which they are).  I could see them taking the road of downplaying the DNC and focusing more on the GDP growth, the troop surge, and other things, suggesting that Bush delivered, even when the other party said they wouldn't.  Mention some stuff about staying strong against Russia and other things.  If it was popular, scaring people against the Democrats might make it worse.

Although I do expect Rudy to say "9/11" no less than five mentions per minute.  He has cemented himself as the President of 9/11.
