I'm getting it.  TVC be damned.

I'm getting it, too.  I WANT Tri-Ace to make good games, but going by the IGN rating in relation to their previous games, this is like, their worst yet.

I am very excited for it.

And apparently there is some conspiracy theory that the lady who reviewed it for IGN loves Star Ocean 3, but didn't like VP2.

Already got it preordered, but the people at the Gamestop didn't have any clue as to the preorder bonus. Or is the preorder bonus only available somewhere else?

Preorder INFINITE UNDISCOVERY on Xbox 360 to receive a code which can be used to unlock 5 special in-game items that can greatly affect the abilities and growth of your character.

I preordered mine. Because I like my rpgs to be easier nowadays. That's why I prefer Blue Dragon without the dlc.

It does say something about the game that Hilary Goldstein, the king of hyperbole and praiser of nearly everything, gave this game an auspicious 7.

That's not the Hilary Goldstein that I know.  The guy seems to be overly negative a lot of the time, imo.

If he's talking about 360 related things, you're probably right. I was referring to his undying love for GTA IV and Bionic Commando ("Everyone everywhere should buy this, blah, etc.")

Yeah, well that was BS but everyone else was out of their fucking mind when they were writting reviews for that game too.  But go look at the other stuff the guy has put out or listen to the 3 red lights podcast.  Hilary is constantly negative about pretty much everything.  I don't know what the fuck the guy actually likes to be honest.

If the reviewer loved GTA4 and wasn't keen on this, I know it must be a good game. GTA4 was awful.

The resulting combat feels a bit like a Tales game crossed with Final Fantasy XII -- a very good thing, as I love Tales' stylish swordplay and appreciated FFXII's lack of random battles, though I never did care for the latter's hands-off approach to combat.

Confirmed greatness.

And to nail it in:

Quote
Tri-Ace RPGs are known for their extensive bonus content, and based on my playtime, Undiscovery looks to deliver on that front, offering four difficulty levels and a postgame dungeon that, as the game puts it, takes "balls of steel" to conquer.

Game sounds average in the sense that, it has really great aspects and aspects that bring it totally down. Very uneven. Glad to hear that the typical tri-Ace shit is still in there though, IGNs review painted the game as a traditional RPG without all the bonus content to fuck with.

You might find something in the game to hook you and keep you coming back for more, but you might also end up wondering why you didn't just save your money for Final Fantasy XIII instead.

THE BOTTOM LINE: Oh, what could have been! An RPG with this kind of pedigree should have been something Xbox 360 owners could be proud of; instead, it disappoints and is yet more proof that the 360 needs more quality RPGs and fast. Keep your fingers crossed, 360 fans, that Final Fantasy XIII delivers the goods.

Basically it is the idea of an open field with monsters roaming, like in FF12, but with good action combat.  It sounds awesome.

even the the most favorable review so far makes the game sound average at best.

having to suffer through a shitty first few hours is not good when the game is that long to begin with. and god i hope that those kids are not more annoying then cooke and mack.

they really should patch the game and let you access the harder difficulties to begin with dammit.

Some reviewers have said that Tales of Vesperia took 10 to 20 hours to pick up and become enjoyable, while the time it takes for IU is allegedly shorter (because the game is).  And consider that there hasn't been any real bitching about the slow pick up from anyone actually playing ToV that the start is very tedious.  Also, the same reviewer who gave IU a B on 1up, gave ToV a B+ -- take from that what you will.

tri-ace has failed, spend your monies on the better game - vesperia.

tri-ace needs it failures rewarded so they can make a sequal to VP2 dork!

Yes, we much continue to give tri-ace more.  I already plan to buy the next Star Ocean.

And I am 100% prepared to backtrack and deal with all the shit I need to if this game does truly suck.  I will make Himuro's backtrack from GTA4 seem like nothing compared to this.

buy games, regardless of their quality, in hopes of getting a sequel out of a dev that might end up sucking ass as well?

hahahahaha.

tri-ace has quite a lot of failures as of late. so3, radiata, and seemingly this game.

i'll get this game and if it truly does suck i will give them one more chance with so4. if so4 sucks then i can safely state they're a mediocre dev.

Im not worried about this games reviews. The mainstream gaming media gave Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey (and how fucking good were those games) average reviews because thats what jrpgs get if they arent called Final Fantasy. Most people have dogshit taste in games

rpgs in general usually get low reviews, see ps1 rpgs like suikoden 1/2 and breath of fire 3/4.

I thinks it's specifically jrpgs, D- turds like Fable and Oblivion always get AAA 9/10 reviews

There is a certain logic to that, though, western RPGs scoring higher than JRPGs. At least when you're playing a bad western RPG like Fable or Jade Empire, you don't have to be embarrassed about your friends/parents/spouse walking in on you playing it. Would you rather have your mom catch you watching a porno, or playing Mana Khemia? Think about it.

Yeah the FF element of RPG reviews is pathetic. I havent played a good FF game in a while.

Lost Odyssey could have easily been called Final Fantasy XIII if it had been released by SE, and reviewers would have been shooting their loads all over it. Instead it's like "DURRRRR, IT DOESN'T ADVANCE THE GENRE VERY MUCH, 7.5"
