There has not been a new main series Final Fantasy in 3 years. Get the hell off it. Even that game split the fanbase in half like no other Final Fantasy before it so get off your "FF sux" high horse. FFIV ds is probably a better rpg than IU, who gives a shit? FF's name holds water for a reason.

I might get the game, but I'm only going to get IU or ToV for now (I have many RPGs I haven't completed).  I'm leaning towards this game.

I probably will end up finishing this, then getting Vesperia.  Damn all of you for hyping up Vesperia so much.

Screw that.  Get Vesperia.  I generally hate the Tales series but Vesperia is a fucking killer game.

IU can wait.
Hmm, I'm surprised you would hate the rest of the Tales series but manage to enjoy Vesperia.  My biggest problem with the game is simply that it feels exactly like another Tales game.  Everything about the game is incredibly similar to the last two Tales games from this team.  That's why I can't imagine someone who hated the other titles enjoying this one.

Outside of the story itself, the game is designed exactly like Abyss.  I like the series, but they really need to evolve certain aspects of the game.  The battles have always been great and they are further refined in Vesperia, but everything else is really dated.

I really need to give this game more of a chance, but yeah the bow-aiming system I don't like at all. And I wish the game would pause when you enter the menus. I have a feeling this is gonna be a total love it or hate it game, doomed to obscurity.

It all depends if I enjoy IU or not, but I probably won't resistant Vesperia anymore and pick it up within the week.

And Last Remnant looks like the most boring RPG since Eternal Sonata.  Isn't the tagline for the game "IT'S MADE WITH UE3"?

I think the bland, lifeless, UE3 graphics are what make Last Remnant look mediocre... but the "control groups not individual" combat style and the fact it has some members of the SaGa team (recursivelyenumerable, correct me if I'm wrong...) working on it, have me interested.

this makes me not want to get the game:
NOOOOOO! Im rewarded for my escape with BRATTY KID CHARACTERS NOOOOOOOOOO!
I hate these kids and their hats.
i can't take any more stupid kids in video games.  it just ruins everything.  it ruins the story, it ruins the dialogue, it ruins the combat, it ruins the theme, and it ruins my reputation as captain awesome because i'm playing a jrpg with spunky kids and i can't let my friends catch me doing it.

this, on the other hand:
This game is awesome. You dont have to babysit all the characters, they all earn XP regardless. I'm at a part where I set up 3 different parties, and the two others go off and do their own thing, all in the same area. Just wow...
is VERY INTERESTING.

i tend to agree with demi only half the time on gaming, but so far, i think this game rocks!   the "connect" concept was a bit wonky when i first encountered it but once you get the hang of it, it's really easy.  the sheathing/unsheathing makes sense too once you get to the forest.  what really clicks with me is the combat though.  i get pretty burnt out on combat right away but i can see it being pretty fun once you customize your special attacks and understand the "connect" abilities of other allies.  i like the various combo styles and how they grant you special bonuses.  the stealth aspect of the game is pretty sweet too -- get rare drops and a few seconds of pure critical hits on enemies you've sneaked up on.  lots of little things they did to make the combat less stale.

probably the best non-anime cartoony jrpg graphics on the system to date.  love the character models and visual effects.  camera isn't so bad, just hit "LB" to recenter like every other japanese free roaming camera out there.

i think my biggest issue with the game is the spread out save points.  i tend to only have time for short bursts of play so it sucks to have to go through big sections before saving.  hopefully this changes as i progress through the game.  so far so good.  from what people are saying, this could be another love/hate game for the jrpg aficionado.  this game totally works for someone like me.

The first hour or so of the game is pretty bad.  It is basically running away, then a lot of boring dialog, then more running away.  And there is a fucking field where dragon shoots shit at you while you carry some weak woman.

It is starting to become more enjoyable when I can actually fight and do stuff, but these kids are annoying (and creepy).  Graphically it is pretty nice, and the music is great.  Voice acting is pretty bad, and that only helps make cutscenes worse.  Combat is pretty enjoyable so far; surprisingly the AI isn't stupid and they take care of themselves easily.

apologism?  im actually enjoying the game!

i doubt i've played as many tri-ace games as you have, which might be why IU doesn't bother me all that much.  the stop and rest to use items and menu thing reminds me of the pc rpgs of old where you couldn't just pop up the menu and the game stopped in your favor.  it feels familiar.

sure there's a lot i would change if i could redesign the game, but sadly it is what it is.  either you fight with functionality & controls or embrace it.  i'm giving it a chance because i like the vibe of the game in addition to the visual style that's presented.  it really helps that the combat doesn't bore me to death.

yup, people are gonna be split on this one.

Actually, IU really does have this odd "console meets PC" feel going on (or, perhaps, more of an East meets West flavor).  It's certainly not a game for everyone, however, and it has plenty of flaws in its own right.

It's a shame they weren't able to recreate scenery similar to what you see in the opening CG, however.  That type of scenery would have been much preferred to the rather plain and empty world the game actually presents.

This game is getting better, but I still am picking up Vesperia tomorrow (I hope I can find the LE, but either way its fine).  I am 80% sure that this game was made to test ideas and send to die from Tri-ace.  Playing this game really makes me think Tri-ace is going to do a loot fest game in the future.

And the music is so good.

I don't think this really plays like old PC RPG, but it reminds me of a middle ground between KOTOR and Jade Empire, except with better combat.

Eternal Sonata > VP?  Maybe.  Truth is that while I admire VP, I find the original to be something of a chore to play, especially nowadays.  I still think it's one of Tri-Ace's best games, but it's too easy to get your game backed into a corner via not having the right weapon and the like.  And games where you absolutely need a strat guide to get the best ending are lol.

And yes, I will agree, Too Human > Infinite Undiscovery, so far.

The music IS good.  It's a shame Vesperia completely fails in that area.  Once again a Tales game proves that game composers should strive for quality over quantity.  Over one hundred songs were created for Tales of Vesperia and only a fraction of them are decent.  Sakuraba always manages to deliver excellent soundtracks for Tri Ace games, but his joint efforts on the Tales series have always fallen flat.  The only Tales game with a truly great soundtrack was, unfortunately, a really bad game (Legendia).  :\

I played about twenty minutes of this yesterday. I noticed that every two minutes of gameplay was preceded by five minutes of inane dialogue and atrocious voice acting [when there was any voice acting at all]. The gameplay itself seems like it will probably get better as I come to grips with the controls, but I also foresee a number of irritants. Such as situations where managing more than one character is necessary and just switching between characters in general.

I'm not particularly hyped about this game anymore, but I'll probably get around to playing more eventually.

I didn't play all of Too Human, but just basing it on the demo, I would say IU is better than it.  Combat is actually pretty enjoyable.

But yeah, IU isn't very good so far.  It is getting more enjoyable, but still incredibly annoying.

in particular, i'm thinking the old first-person ad&d and might & magic games (3 comes to mind).  i'm fucking old so feel free to correct me, but i recall unless you found a safe spot to use items, you'd continually be interrupted by enemy attack.  that's what IU reminds me of.  you CAN use items while getting your ass beat in IU, it's just a pain in the ass.  better off just hitting "Y" and requesting healing until the wave clears.

IU has an amazing story.  Like, I'm some twin who plays a magic flute, and people are trying to steal the moon or something, and there is some giant blue dragon that can talk and is a priest, and  some guy can see the future, and a bear unicorn, and a terrible parent.

You have to sit through a like 45 minute cut scene before you can do anything in VP1.

In IU you have to run through the dark for 20 minutes.

in particular, i'm thinking the old first-person ad&d and might & magic games (3 comes to mind).  i'm fucking old so feel free to correct me, but i recall unless you found a safe spot to use items, you'd continually be interrupted by enemy attack.  that's what IU reminds me of.  you CAN use items while getting your ass beat in IU, it's just a pain in the ass.  better off just hitting "Y" and requesting healing until the wave clears.

those games were turn-based. and i am probably older than you! the later first-person m&m and ad&d games allowed you to hit space to pause or go into a phase-based system, where you could menu at your leisure.

IU has the worst first hour of a game ive experienced in forever. The dungeon, the forest, the stupid meaningless dragon area, the crappy town with ugly kids....

Yeah, talk about a downgrade from Karol.  Those children are fucking terrible and obnoxious.  They have those precious matching twee outfits that make me want to dislocate their jaws with a tire iron and then rip 'em off with my hands, fueled by pure, unadulterated hate.
