So I've been with my girlfriend 4 months, everything seems to have been going pretty well... sweet little Italian girl, likes to cook and has made me meals, treated me really kindly, fun to hang out with, morally upstanding (I love the girls next door).
Then a few weeks ago, on the train to the city, she spits out, almost at random. "I can't marry a non-Christian". Then what ensues for the next few weeks is a long discussion where she is attempting to 'convert' me to her form of Christianity... aka she's a born-again. I am a typical lapsed Catholic that doesn't really believe in much, and what she wants from me is to raise kids Christian, send them to Jesus Camp, all that jazz.
I have to get out of this. How should I break off with her? Or get her to see my way? I've told her I don't see myself ever opening up to Christianity, but she's throwing books on me to read, she had me meet with her pastor (interesting guy but I am still not convinced), she keeps saying I should "give it time". But the thing is, she's 29, I'm 26, she is looking to get married asap and I'm her first "serious" relationship. I know I can't give it time, I'm already set in my beliefs and I can't see myself raising a family like that. Just going to her family's house for a Labor Day BBQ, the difference between me and my ideals was so great - they are all praising Palin for being pro-life and not aborting her Downs baby, I'm a probama whose religious leanings is "I believe in God, that's about it, being a good and genuine person is enough".
