Franz Kafka's KANADA: THE MANCHILD WHO DISAPPEARED
« on: September 19, 2008, 08:43:29 PM »
Headed for Victoria by myself by 19-hour Greyhound bus ride with only a couple small suitcases.  I don't even have a passport (supposedly, it's not required until June 2009 for entry by land/sea, and a birth certificate & photo ID will suffice --- we'll see).  I've never been out of the US before.*  Think I can get a job at Enterprise No. 25?

* this isn't quite true

I was really impressed with the quality of ass in Victoria. The restaurants there were pretty good, too.

Isn't there another ferry to commie town or do the escape barges from the United States of Shitmerica only leave once a day?

because I didn't bother to familiarize myself with the most basic geographical features of the area before I embarked, I ended up taking this ridiculously roundabout route from Seattle all the way up to Vancouver and then back down the entire Vancouver Island.  It was pretty cool going to sleep on the bus and waking up on a huge boat, though.  also, customs officials are full of shit.  also, I was only able to follow about 30% of the Mechanizing Metatheory talks, but I guess that's a lot better than I could've done two years ago.

 :lol Depends on the size of the town you're in. We have on not far from me that's open until midnight, but that's a pretty recent thing, and I live in the boonies.

Uh, so, there's no conference-related event today.  What do I do?  I don't want to just sit around and read forums like I can do every day in Portland anyway, but I dunno anything else.  I kinda don't want to do the rounds of whatever obligatory tourist attractions there are.
