The Zelda series generally has a subtitle to fall back on, though.

Bullshitship has a new trailer

Cute. At one point, the enemy projectile looks like a peg, and it inserts itself into the ship. This is the extent of the tie-in? I mean... other than the one line you know Liam Neeson will be forced to say at some point.

Looks like all of the action (and pacing, and style, and FX budget) of Transformers, with none of the plot.

The in-flight movies on the way back to Japan were kind of poor, or poorly chosen. They had Tin-Tin, the new Muppet Movie, and one other "big screen only" action flick (I forget which one), and I wasn't up for watching it on a 5" screen with washed-out contrast. So the only movie of theirs I watched was:

Tower Heist
I like Ben Stiller in just about anything, but I would have cast Casey Affleck and Ben in each others' roles. I guess Ben wants to be a serious actor now. Alan Alda was great as a bad guy. Other than that, I expected more out of a cast of this quality, the drama and laughs were both a bit weak, and the final target of the heist was unbelievable in an unenjoyable destroying-my-suspension-of-disbelief kind of way.

So I turned to stuff I'd loaded on my notebook, which I'd been saving for a while:
Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang
If I'd known this was a Shane Black thing, I'd have seen it sooner. If I'd known Val Kilmer would be this cool, I'd have seen it sooner. RDJ is solid in his role as well. Funny, well-written, and enjoyable from start to finish.

The Missing
Tommy Lee Jones is awesome. The guy playing El Brujo was horrifying, and the makeup was really good -- I just assumed they'd found someone that ugly. I was surprised to see Val Kilmer show up in this as well. A little unintentional theming, I guess? His southern accent was distracting. Cate Blanchett's American accent is not. Ultimately, the movie went on a bit longer than I would have liked; the second act stretches on for a bit. The finale is good, though I was honestly expecting something even more bleak, considering the tone of the rest of the movie.

Just watched Memories of Matsuko. I really liked Confessions (best 2010 movie I've seen), so I figured I'd check out the director's other films. And it was pretty great! The story/characters did take a little while to grow on me, but I was hooked once they really started digging into Matsuko's backstory. The cinematography was absolutely excellent from start to finish as well - it handily trumps Confessions in that area (which also has great cinematography).

hey guys!  Leprechaun is coming back, but this time its a WWE films production, so a wrestler(s?) will be shoehorned in there somewhere, perhaps even as the lead.

this already sounds like the shit movie of choice for 2013.

the last time Burton and Depp did a passion project it was the freaking awesome Sweeney Todd, which, hell, might have been the last good film left in Mr. Burton.

Burton has basically been given the rare "make whatever the fuck you want" green light from his studio after making a film that grossed a billion dollars. And in response he has basically...continued making the same shit. Frankenweenie is interesting in terms of being a black and white CGI flick (in 3D of course), but everything else he does is just standard (new) Burton, or standard old Burton depending on your opinion of his work.

I would have hoped he'd do something ambitious or interesting given his new freedom, like Nolan with Inception, which he couldn't get anyone to greenlight before TDK

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

really liked it a lot. just an all around great movie. Daniel Craig and the chick Rooney Mara def stood out. In the chicks case, it's a clear example of material + fantastic director = great performance.

It's nice to see Fincher making good movies after the last two duds.

also watched Hugo last night

enjoyed it. the story went into directions I didn't expect in a good way.

Cursing and violence don't make films better. Expendibles 2 will be shitty whether it's R or PG-13, and I think Promotheus can be very good regardless of rating. You can get away with a lot of odd, bloodless violence with a PG-13 rating. It looks like a character gets annihilated by some type of acid in the trailer, which is perfectly doable.

And of course since it's Scott, we'll either get an amazing DC or a totally shitty one eventually

Removing the ability to introduce certain imagery into Prometheus is not ideal. It's never been about cursing and random violence, the alien rape scene for instance would never make it past the PG13 gate. That being said this movie will still be amazing, the blu ray will be just better though

You could get away with alien rape with a PG-13 depending on how it was shot

As great as Verbinski's Starship Troopers was (in hindsight mind you), don't see why anyone wouldn't want to make one with their power armor or whatever. Make it look like a SC intro movie

Who the fuck thinks making a Starship Troopers CGI film is sacrilegious anyway ???

1. Two abysmal sequels have ruined whatever legacy VERHOEVEN's Starship Troopers left behind.
2. This isn't even the first animated Starship Troopers: there was previously a 6-episode OVA from Japan in 1988 and the American-produced Rougnecks series in 1999.

Well, that's at least 75% of what Starship Troopers is all about. The other part being fascism [if you read the book] or making fun of fascism [if you watch the first movie].

I can see how living in Detroit would make the film a bit insulting, considering that futuristic Detroit was really just Dallas.

Act of Valor
Some of the acting is pretty terrible and it has the usual patriotic shit but hot damn it has some cool action scenes.  The camerawork is also adequate enough to let you comprehend what's going on during action scenes.  Just a run of the mill action movie with some especially badass scenes.  The bad guy is a pretty decent actor and he pulls off the villain angle quite well but I really think he's underutilized.  He could have been much more diabolical but I guess it would have taken away from the "realistic" aspect
