The only good thing to come from that Christian forum linked of GAF.

Obama won mainly because people expected McCain to roll him over plus he got John on a few zingers.

"That one" and his comment on Obama's hidden fees were some low blows that were unnecessary.

I think McCain is fucked.  The word coming in from all over except for Faux News is that Obama won this one.  These were supposedly both of McCain's strong points.  Now all he has left the weak domestic policy debate.  Unless that is supposedly McCain's strong point too.

Maybe Obama will gain 2-3 points in the polls but with already being 6-8 points ahead, it is probably too big of a gap for McCain to really close.

Snap poll results are in:

CBS
Obama 39%
McCain 27%

CNN
Obama 54%
McCain 30%

Even the pundits scorecards on CNN had it overwhelmingly for Obama.

Now.  The big thing that everyone is going to take away from and remember from this debate is the "that one" moment.  It's creepy and weird at best, borderline racist at worst.  People will take it poorly and this is pretty much it for McCain.  GAME OVER, MAN.

Obama came in the front runner. Obama left as the front runner. Nothing changed

Horribly set up debate. I thought McCain's performance was better than his previous one but he still came off shrill, out of touch, and weak. Obama looked like a president debating a challenger. I don't think there was any big moment in the debate, and that's what hurts McCain: he needed Obama to fuck up, and Obama didn't fumble.

I thought Obama swept the first debate. This time he merely stiff armed every McCain advance. He was the stronger presence in the room, he gave the clearest answers, he had the best attacks, etc. But I don't think this was some type of decapitating win for Obama

Yep, not even King could bring himself to score McCain higher than Obama.

I still think it should have been the moderator's job to correct McCain when he said that thing about Obama wanting to attack Pakistan for the second time, right after the first correction.

The "media" is not insinuating it was a racial comment. I was watching CNN, it was Begala who said the comment was dumb because it could even been infered to have an undercurrent of racism.

Nobody called it racist.

McCain came off as condescending and old.

The "that one" comment reeked of comtempt-how dare this whipper-snapper steal my presidency!-rather than anything else. It still speaks leagues to his character, but in a different way than if it was clearly race related.

Given that the Embarracuda is likely to keep her attacks-she's not the kind of person to learn new tricks in the middle of the week without significant coaching-it'll be interesting to see if McCain jumps in directly with the Reverend Rezko Ayers Manchuribama as well, given that they are going to be campaigning together again starting tomorrow. If he does, look for the entire weight of the media and punditry to unload on McCain like a fucking hammer. The real pre-debate story today was the comments from the crowds in the speeches on Monday, where the crowd was clearly stoked into a frenzy of the very worst sort.

I think a lot of people forget that the point of these debates ISNT TO SEE WHO DEBATES BETTER. McCain offers no specifics, which makes the debate utterly useless when it comes to getting to know his position-- aside from being a fear monger.
Came here to post this. McSame had no specifics and thinks we should all just trust him to "change things in Washington." I also can't believe that he can defend his health care plan with a straight face.

It didn't have anything to do with race but it had everything to do with condescending attitude of the Junior Senator from Illinois who dares challenge an experienced but maverick Senior Senator of Arizona.  People bringing up race are missing the point.  Obama can't really comment on his disrespect due to this because it is now tied to race and his attacks on McCain's disrespect will now be tied to using the race card, which is an instant loss.

Remember when Obama was the one being hammered by pundrity/voters about his lack of specifics? Seems like the voters are now saying that about McCain but the media hasn't caught on

The "no substance" criticism was never really valid.  Obama chose not to make his stump speech into a laundry list of his proposed programs, but he was plenty detailed and informed in interviews, Q&A sessions, his website, and policy-specific speeches (like the one he gave in March on financial regulation).

It was always about optics.  Because he's a relatively new figure to the national press, charismatic, and beloved by young people they pegged him as a talker rather than a doer, as if the two are somehow negatively correlated.  McCain gets a pass because he's old and has been in Washington for so long.

How many of the people criticizing Obama actually spend a lot of time discussing policy themselves?

Yes, in the grand Republican tradition of Nixon's secret plan to win Vietnam and McCarthy's secret list of communists, there's no way McCain's secret plan to capture bin Laden can fail.

Yeah. It's sort of how the Bush Administration announced that they were pulling out of Iraq. It really didn't do too much for McCain at all.

SOMETHING big has to happen just for McCain to tie things up. Perhaps the only good think that's happened for him in the last 3 weeks was the VP debate. Palin lost but at least she didn't fall on her face. Everything else has been downhill

I'm never going to predict an Obama win but it's not looking good for McCain right now. At all
