Don't know why this couldn't go into one of the other SR2 threads, but oh well:

The writing in that article is painfully amateur. The inner-English teacher in me wanted to take a red pen to that review and hemorrhage all over it.
Quote
our character has been in a prison hospital stuck in a coma since he was blown off of a yacht, thus badly burning your exterior. Luckily that happens to open the door to the robust character customization. You can select from three female accents and three male accents as well as the usual huge array of physical traits. Plus later in the game you'll earn new personalities, taunts, costumes and fighting styles.
Generally speaking, irony does not work in text. I can only assume associating full body burns with "luckily" was intended as irony.

Quote
There's the all-new Trail Blazer and Septic Avenger or you can try out the analog stick-based sex mini-game. They're all just as fun and outrageous as the next.
Nate, this is trite; please see me after class.

Quote
The production values aren't at the level that I'd like to see, but every so often I would be impressed with what I was watching on-screen.
Though reviews are a form that encourages the expression of personal opinion through criticism, it's bad form to casually refer to judgment of quality from such a bloated, self-important first-person perspective.

Then again, IGN is such a shit site that it will load EVERY god damned advertisement on the page before loading the non-caching background texture for the body article. Check this beautiful masterpiece of web sorcery:

PS: Yes, I'm in a pissy mood.  >:(

This game is a day one buy, now that I know it supports local system link. I'm hoping the system link is for more than two people, because that zombie mode + friends + beer will be a pretty fun night. So many games don't bother with the good old system link.

Someone needs to do a new Mercs style game with a new theme...The sandbox war >>>>>> sandbox city

How about a sandbox game of Cybertron and Autobots Vs Deceptacons? The origonal Cybertron.

Got a lower score than GTA4, but its a better game.

Basically, this review just points out yet again what distinguished mentally-challenged, ball-lickers game reviewers journalists are. He admits SR2 has a lot better gameplay and is a lot more fun, but can't get over GTA4's "production values" (and no doubt it's Oscar award-winning screenplay), so SR2 gets a 8.2 to GTA4's 10.

I've never played a Mercenaries game, I might get one this week though with the B2G1 free deal at Toys R Us. But I've read before this was originally supposed to be one of the Strike series games, a sequel to the old Desert Strike (there were ones after) games. That's what someone needs to make. Also, a new Road Rash game too.

Just before 3DO tanked massively, I mean like a week or two prior to shuttering, they had a decent showing at E3. They had that Four Horsemen game, SRS, and something that looked a lot like Road Rash for then-current-gen systems. It was pretty neato. And of those three, only SRS was picked up -- by Namco of all things, perhaps to fill that massive gap in their racing lineup. <cough>RidgeRacerWTF</cough>

OH WHAT THE FUCK. GTAIV had some of the worst auto-aiming ever.

It's like somehow including a comprehensive 3rd person aiming system over a lock on aiming system is somehow assuming too much of gamers or is a detriment to the game. It seems to me that the vast majority of gamers would prefer an actually good aiming system to the crap that was GTA IV gameplay

Not what i hear. It's a really fun game, but the whole "It's better than GTAIV" by some of the people in the interwebz is pretty much wrong. We'll see.

I don't understand the GTA hate anyway. If you want crackdown buy...crackdown?

Why can't it be better than GTA4?

It's not whether it could've been better or not, any game can be better than GTA, wtf, but it either ends up being or not. Saint's Row isn't better than GTA. And no, being more batshit with some of the stuff it does doesn't make it better.

But again, some of you have some sort of problem with GTA that i don't understand.

gta4 doesn't do what the previous gta offerings did so well. gta is about virtual mayhem and emergent gameplay, not "realistic" driving controls and scripted missions and dating mini-games.

Imo GTA simply evolved into something a bit more grounded and serious. It still does the whole "emergent" gameplay thing better than any sandbox game.

If you think you are going to get a more "sandbox" game in saints row 2 than GTA IV you will be disappointed. But yeah, just play the game. Car chases have 0 on GTAIV, shooting isn't any more exciting, and if you think this is Cracdown think again.

Just got off 90 minutes of co op. I was playing by myself, got a message saying someone wanted to join, said yes, and he appeared like 15 seconds later with no hitch on my side. We did some side missions. First was escort, where you have to drive while a hooker fucks a guy and keep the press from taking pictures. Well, in co op, one guy drives and the other guy has to do a sex minigame. It's awesome. Then I got wanted stars but didn't want to pull out the map and get arrested, so he set his own wavepoint and talked me to a Forgive and Forget.

Then we did the demo derby. We completed it, raking in like 8 grand, earning 15% off all vehicle modifications at the shop, and unlocking the full set of derby cars at our garages. We also unlocked all the demo derby upgrades, like cattle catchers and boarded up windows.

Then we went clothes shopping :lol

Then he quit, which was also completely seamless.

This game fucks GTA4 in the ass.

edit: Oh, and I upgraded my apartment with a big screen TV and a stripper pole, and it changed in realtime on his screen. We played some of the Zombie attack game, but lost.

I might try out co-op tomorrow.  So far I've been messing around and doing single player stuff.

The character customization is actually amazing.  Rarely does a game have a character creator that lets me get exactly what I want, but this one had it.  The only problem I do have is with the voices since if you're a white guy, you don't have a standard white guy voice but some badass aussie.  It's still awesome.  My character is basically me if I was a badass aussie with a samurai sword.
