The costume prices announced for the US are kindy rapey.
$1 a costume for generics, $2 a costume for recognizable characters.

Meanwhile Japan gets the Ape Escape outfit free.

Oh and the US isn't getting the Halloween outfit until AFTER Halloween even though Japan has it right now.   ::)

When the servers went back up I played some more online levels and SP.  I think the game is more of a party game than anything.  Especially since you need 2+ players to get 100% on most levels.  Playing with other people is a blast.  Playing by yourself is generally pretty good in the disc levels, ok to meh in most user levels.

I'm fine with the core mechanics, my only tech complaint is really the blur is really overdone.  It's hard to see what's going on sometimes in motion.  Probably the worst use of blur in a game.  Which is too bad because when there's just that little bit of blur when the camera is close up after you beat a level the blur makes it look like CG.  It's just during sections with a lot going on it hurts the eyes.  Maybe they can patch in a blur bar in the options?

Oh and I played some user level (the batman one) that almost killed my PS3.  DON'T LOAD YOUR LEVELS WITH TOO MUCH STUFF.  It really screws up your jumps when the PS3 goes CLUNK and stutters when you are trying to make tight jumps.

You serious?

My PS3 is too important as a Blu-ray player for me to risk its reliability for a game like LBP.  Also, I agree w/you completely on the excessive blur.  It's one of the main reasons why I felt lukewarm about the beta.

The Japanese costumes are AWESOME!
That piposaru costume is made up of individual pieces - the monkey "sack", the hat, the googly eyes and the yellow pants. The spacesuit is also hella cute. Not interested in the pumpkin so much but grabbed anyway as it's free.

But WTF at the tearing in some of the user levels - Sackman Begins, in particular, has some atrocious tearing. Give it a try. The level itself is pretty cool though. Oh, and you should check out the Dig Dug stage my friend made. It's all kinds of cool.

hehe, I actually played the Dig Dug stage earlier.

Since there's no way of sorting levels, the method I'm using is going through my friends list and playing all the levels they have bookmarked.  When I went to your profile I saw you had that level bookmarked so I played it :P

That batman level was the one that was really making my PS3 struggle.  Even the disc levels tear with 4p sometimes.  I did the first level of world 2 with 4p and there was plenty of tearing when swinging across monkeys.

Man I'm so jealous of your Ape Escape costume :(

Anyone want to play now?  I want to go through the story levels (haven't played world 3+) but it's better with 2-4 people.

I played a dozen or so user levels with a friend and there was this level "starstruck" (star~something, I think that's the name though) that was really good.  It's the longest user level I've seen and it's continually fun.  Probably like 10mins+.  Has some neat gameplay ideas too.

I'm still waiting for the servers to get all up before I can 100% story mode (three levels require 4 people at once to get all items and I don't have those) and then I can begin making my levels.  If even one of my levels turns out as cool as it seems on paper (...I actually wrote these down on paper in one of my boring classes last week, like, detailed explanations on how I would make it.  smh, me), I could only hope people check it out.  The shitty levels I made in the beta had only 50 people playing them, which isn't too bad considering how little effort I put into them.

My level is progressing at a comically slow pace.

I really don't think I'm gonna be able to do all of Dante's Inferno in one level so I'll probably do one circle at a time. I haven't even gotten to the river Acheron yet and I still have to do it and Limbo. :\

I'll play with you guys tomorrow.  I've been getting lost in Fallout 3, but I need to get back into LBP after hearing about some cool levels.

and seriously people, why'd everyone skip over all those awesome videos I posted? at least watch this:

He isn't all the way there yet, but it's brilliant how he did that.  If you can't tell what's happening, the actual player is behind the screen using a jetpack, and the vic viper is set to follow at a fast speed so it's instant movement.

and there is even a new one.

We had no connection problems at all, even when playing with DCharlie. Then again, I was hosting (with Sho Nuff also playing locally).

I think 2 player co-op may well be more fun for many levels. With 4, everyone rushes and you miss too much. But it's still a blast. Even if the level is shit, you can switch out pretty fast and the party sticks together. People seemed quite willing to keep level-surfing with us...no bitching or whining. Refreshing really. I won't be able to play a ton of this online sadly but my handle is DerpDerpDerp if anybody wants to add me.

Nice, the custom levels are looking good.  LBP will be excellent in a few months once people separate the cream from the crap.

I can see people still caring about LBP a few years from now, unlike the other heavily hyped PS3 franchises.

well, let's be honest...if that version of Gradius were released anywhere else but LBP, NONE of us would play it ;) The jet-pack controls are horribly floaty, there are no power-ups, and you can't get projectiles to go in a straight line so none of the design of the original makes any sense. It's a brilliant attempt but doomed from the start. Hopefully, the smart, creative people are just copying stuff as experiments with the editor before getting into making their own stuff. I'm hugely intimidated already though.

btw, the most fun user level I've played was called "World of Color". Straight platforming goodness...works well in multiplayer.

I think the reason it's so amazing for me is that it is a totally different genre done in this game.  The controls are actually good in the level, but you do need to hold down x the entire time.  R1 is to shoot.  The only problem with it is that if you get hit, the level ends.

The guy who made it (search for RRR3000) also made the Tetris level.  Tetris was a lot more fun, especially with two people.

What I like about the game in general is being thrust into a new situation where you don't know the rules all the time. I  open up this, and think "Oh, it's Gradius!" and then "Wait, it's JUST Gradius, but shitty"

But once the training wheels come off, I'm sure the guy will do crazy stuff.

I think that's the reason why the Tetris stage was actually a good level and not just an interesting proof of concept.  It was Tetris, same basic idea and all that, but the way you play it was totally different and you could also do it with 3 other people.

I played a TON of user levels last night. I think I liked 'The Great Escape' best, but it's very linear.

I'm a bit frustrated with having to restart levels because somebody thought it would be fun to introduce some random instant death sections with no warning or hints near the end of their otherwise fun level. I don't want to play your level 100x; i just want to barrel through it, scoop the metaphorical cream off the top and go on to the next one.  Even some of the MM levels annoyed me - the bit near the end (?) of Frida's Wedding where you have to jump onto the gaping mouths? WTF is that about.

I've only seen videos, but I think it says press R to shoot in the intro blurb, or something.

yeah, it's R1.  You are inside material that can be grabbed, then the switch activates and it shoots.

I gave it a whirl, and as expected, the cool factor wore off real fast.

Danielsan's SOTC level (Little Big Colossus I think) is quite nice but he breaks some of the unwritten rules really badly - he tells you to jump blind, then kills you, drives you towards spots that you get stuck in, etc. And I really hate when people set up a sequence of jumps that LOOKS like you can take it in one unbroken run, but really, you have to pause at some points. In other words, this is why the pros get paid the big bucks, because they test their shit! They know how far the main character can jump, the effect of accumulating momentum and so on. /grumpy

Star Gardens is nice though.

LBP is my GoTY but people who make levels really tick me off.

They make these fantastic levels and then 10 mins into them you either:
A)  Can't figure out wtf to do to move on because the level maker didn't make it at least a little obvious
B)  You hit a glitch preventing you from finishing the level (my favorite is when level makers put a trigger wall before the level finish button that can only be activated once.  So when the wall lifts up for a second if you are on the outside when it drops you have to restart the entire level over)

The last two good levels I played both had glitches 5-10 mins in that prevented me from finishing the level.  This is laaaame, especially since these guys are talented enough to make top quality levels.   >:(

And I remembered that people could comment on pages, so I checked he comments on one of my levels and saw that everyone was complaining that it was broken, so I checked it out and there was a glitch in the transition from beta to final where the entire level disappears midway.  I fixed it up and reuploaded it.
