Since they already have a pretty much melee-based hero with the Death Knight, I think it's time for a ranged hero. Archdruid sounds good!

Old Kingdom :bow

Another great instance that can be completed quickly. When I first entered I was like fuuuck, this place is huge. But from beginning to end it took us maybe 40 minutes. Wiped on the third boss but that was it

the last boss is AWESOME. Holy shit haven't had that much fun on a boss since VC, back in Deadmines  :lol

I'm level 60 now and getting into the core of the Burning Crusade's content. I've had the expansion came out and this is the first time I'm getting to experience Outland, haha.

Ha, you're in for fun times - if you like instances. I loved doing Ramparts, and later Blood Furnace.

Another failed Violet Hold run, this time due to our dps lagging. Plus someone left due to "mom arrgo". First time I've ever witnessed that.  :lol

I did a lot better tanking it this time. Held arrgo and kept the healer safe. Plus I was feeling hella confident after a string of very successful runs. Old Kingdom/Azol/Drak feature many mobs that can't be polymorphed or cc'd, so you often wind up fighting 3-4 at a time. Great practice for holding arrgo, and the challenge is fun.

I try to push the tab button to get into the habit, but usually if the mobs are positioned around me I'll just click on them one by one and start Devastating/HS/Shield Slam/etc with Thunderclap and other aoe attacks thrown in; if enemies are stacked on each other (making it hard to click on them individually) I use the tab.

Not a fan of the way it locks you out the instance if you die, but I can understand why it's so uncompromising: the loot is fuck awesome and plentiful. I got:

Finished a hellish Violet Hold run. We wiped twice on Xevozz but that wasn't the biggie. One great warlock dps, one good mage dps, and one horrible dps mage. I was doing more damage than him for most of the instance. Because of this each portal took minutes to clear. I've never spent so much time on one portal

We still managed to clear it but jeez, I've never had dps problems with one who didn't do enough damage; hell usually the problems arise when they're doing too much

I moved Cocco over to another server, sorry guys! Prole is guildmaster now.

I'm hella geared (1700 spell damage with Fel Armor up, 9.5% hit) and am pretty much able to roll through Heroics. I am in a Naxx-oriented guild with friends from work on the new server, yippee~

I've almost "finished" my tanking and healing sets.  21.2K mana, 1936sp, 30.6% crit, 10% haste as holy.  26.8K health, 542 defense, 20% dodge, 16% parry, 20% block (1100 block value) as prot.  With a couple upgrades and after the next patch I'll hit between 28.5K and 29K health unbuffed and add 2% block, 80ish block value, and 1.5% dodge+parry.

Did Culling of Stratholme earlier. Eh, didn't like it that much but it was probably due to me dps'ing instead of tanking. I can't dps for shit but didn't pass up the opportunity to run through it with a lv80 tank and a great healer.

Great healer...but a huge asshole. Lv78 priest, switched from shadow to holy today. Yesterday we ran Drak'Tharon Keep. Everything went extremely smoothly but I wound up dying after we defeated King Dred; basically I wasn't healed while Grievous Bite bled me to death. So the dude then took the next 5 minutes bitching at our healer, telling him to pay attention and how that fuck up would get him kicked out of a raid. I died after the fight, there was no point in ragging the healer jeez it wasn't a big deal at all. All he does is obsess over the more technical aspect of the game, ie always talking about numbers/spell damage/buffs/etc.

Fuck that I just want to have fun.

Did the last boss of Halls of Lightning last night; got an invite to dps/off tank. I'm so glad I didn't agree to do it a couple days ago - I only did the final few minutes but jeez it's tough. Lv80-81 mobs damn. We had a lv80 pally tank so I made sure to watch what he did. Many of the mobs do a whirlwind attack that can fuck you up, even at my defense rating/armor. BUT any type of stun/interfere type move can stop it, like say Shield Bash.

The last boss wasn't tough, just have to follow directions. I do Halls of Stone, get to lv78 or 79 and then try to tank that place

Ha, I have a feeling heroics in general are gonna be a wake up call for me. I'm close to lv78, haven't had much trouble tanking any of these instances, but my experience with heroics is pretty pedestrian compared to most. I did some of Old Hillsbrad on heroic, that was about it.

We'll see. I remember struggling with the higher lv TBC (Slabs *shudder*) instances before mastering them, hell and even after I mastered them I'd run into fuck ups. But so far LK instances have been straight forward. Nexus might be the hardest one imo, but that's just because of the bosses mainly.

Wrath heroics are easier than TBC heroics, imo.

It seems to me that Blizzard decided to not do much in the way of legit l80 dungeons, and instead figured that everyone would just want to start doing heroics immediately.

I think that was a smart move.

The only heroic that sucks is The Oculus and that's because the last boss is vehicle based and requires a bit of coordination which naturally makes it the worst place to PuG.  Heroic Loken is really easy.  I tell the tank to never move, stand 20 yards away with beacon on myself, and heal spam away.  Usually 1-2 dps run way out of healing range and die on the first lightning nova and then we three man it with the one non-distinguished mentally-challenged fellow DPS (which is a lot easier, anyway, and allows me to be a dick to the people who died).

It does, but I forgot you were a BS. I sent it to another BS I know. My alt can provide ore as its a miner. My DK mostly needs backup tanking gear and weapons. I tanked Nexus on it last night and was waaay too squishy. If I spam my aoe, aggro is little problem, but I get hit like a bitch without my cooldowns. So I got a tanking ring and been acquiring the BS cobalt defensive gear. I am not tank specced, but deep frost doesn't add that much more mitigation from what I can tell. What I lack is the low tier dodge and armor bonuses.

My DK:

http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Ravenholdt&n=Evilebetty

cubicle: I run heroic HoL with about 240 Latency and run out as far as the rest on Novas and still die often, while the people right next to me live. It's a bitch with latency. It's fine without it. I just generally avoid running it if my connection isn't top notch.

An easy defense ring you can get (quest reward): http://www.wowhead.com/?item=39650

At your level you can get the cobalt defense set, and once you gain a few more levels you'll be able to get the awesome tempered saronite stuff

legs: http://www.wowhead.com/?item=39650
bracers: http://www.wowhead.com/?item=41974
belt: http://www.wowhead.com/?item=39087

Some tanking trinkets would help as well; you could just use them for instances and keep your regular ones for everything else. I'm still using these two
http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Ravenholdt&n=Goinio

Edit: Tanked Halls of Lightning earlier tonight. Challenging instance, just like HoS. I'd say it's harder than HoS overall

I got the chest, bracers, belt and legs of the cobalt set. I also respecced a bit. I don't plan to tank much, but I'll likely end up tanking run for my friends alts that are all around the same level.

In not entirely new news, WoW isn't in good shape right now. Big Guilds are dying from lack of things to do and people are finally fed up with the crappy PvP. It will be interesting to see how things go over the next few patches. I have been meaning to talk to other more serious players than myself, who play on a more advanced server, but they aren't on anymore and I wonder if they're already left the game.

I always run with 300-400ms latency.  Of course, in this situation I'm the healer and have a paladin-specific strategy that essentially makes it impossible for me to die as long as the tank is still up.

I ran Naxx 25 up until Thaddius last night.  2 things.

1. My connection is fucking terrible.  Every ability that affected a large number of people had a good shot of disconnecting me which made me wonder why I never got booted from the group (I said in raid that they should replace me multiple times).  Thane's Meteor, DC.  Gluth's Decimate, DC.  Etc.  On Thaddius I DC'd on polarity shift once but got the same charge so it didn't kill anyone.  When I logged back in I ran away from the raid and continued to heal from 40 yards out.  This really hurt everyone's dps, though, and after a <100K wipe I excused myself.

2. Naxx 25 is awful.  It's just one big DPS and AoE heal zerg.  Naxx 10 isn't difficult but with two healers it's engaging and fun.  This was not.  If it wasn't for the ilvl 213 loot (really?  13 item levels above the 10 man?) I wouldn't go back.

edit:

My haul from last night -
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=40625 - T7.5 Chest (I'll get the Ret chest since the Holy chest sucks)
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=40204 - Legguards of the Apostle (perfectly itemized Holy legs)
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=40259 - Waistguard of Divine Grace (perfectly itemized Holy belt)

What do you guys think is the best entry heroic for new lv80s? I'm at 79 now.

According to this thread it sounds like Utgarde Keep.

http://www.tankspot.com/forums/f125/41608-heroic-difficulty.html

Utgarde Keep is definitely the easiest.  If you have halfway decent gear (maybe 23K unbuffed and defense capped) I'd run Culling of Strat and Utgarde Pinnacle for the sword / shield ASAP.  Violet Hold isn't bad and you can get tanking legs from there.  Nexus heroic is a fairly easy run for badges.

UK you can do as soon as you hit 80 but I'd also hit level 80 non-heroic dungeons for tanking upgrades.  There are a bunch of decent rep items you should pick up ASAP.  Equip the Wyrmrest tabard and hit revered asap for the chest, boot, and cape upgrades (cape is honored).  If you do the Icecrown quests you'll hit honored with Argent Crusade easily and can get the tanking legs from there (until the Violet Hold ones drop).  AC also has the tanking head enchant (revered).  Put Jormungar Leg armor on your tanking legs (until you get epic legs).

I'd also get an engineer to make you the Amor Plated Combat Shotgun ASAP.  That's a 56 stam, 21 defense rating upgrade and the mats are more than reasonable since you're a miner with a little farming.  Also you can make the Tempered Titansteel Helm which is just decent now (+110 stam, -a lot of defense rating) but will be very good after 3.0.8 hits and it gains a meta and blue gem slot.  You can create the titansteel shield wall too (shield).

Alright, I'm done.

Yea, I just read about the Titansteel Helm getting a gem slot in the next patch. I'm at 430 bs right now so I just need 10 more points.

Right now I'm trying to get the def amulet and trinket that drop in HoS and HoL. And I might as well start farming for that gun; I have tons of saronite, the eternal elements are easily aquired...but damn the titanium is going to be a bitch. I've got 9 ores, which is enough to make the Titansteel Helm. The nodes have horrible respawns

What do you guys think is the best entry heroic for new lv80s? I'm at 79 now.

According to this thread it sounds like Utgarde Keep.
http://www.tankspot.com/forums/f125/41608-heroic-difficulty.html

DO NOT do Heroics right when you ding 80, that's the asshat thing to do as you will not be geared well enough. You need to do some regular level 80 instances (Halls of Stone/Lightning, UP, Oculus, etc) to get geared as well as maybe some crafted gear and THEN you can do Heroics.

PD isn't too far away from tanking introductory heroics.

I solo'd Ony and most of ZG for cash today.  ZG is a fucking terrible place for a pally tank and I'm never going back.  Cleared everything except Hakkar who I couldn't get to thanks to the wind serpents that have a channeled spell that silences me.  Also, I had to exploit the tiger boss because he silenced me around 80% of the time and I can't HoJ or Arcane Torrent while silenced to interrupt the healer's GH.  Funny that Jin'do is the easiest boss to solo.

Then I tanked a heroic UP and timed Culling of Strat run to get my guild leader (another pally) the tanking shield for his off-spec.  I love that timed run as any spec.  It's so much fun.

When I did Strat earlier today one of our DPSers kept explaining the various intricacies of the instance's lore. I remember bits and pieces of stuff from WCII and III, nothing more

Wiped about 7 times in UP, all on Skadi. Everything up to that point was cake but we couldn't be that motherfucker. 3 lv80s in the group.  :'( :'( :'(

We used a little trick where we'd farm the harpoons, wait then move back into the hallway so the sequence would reset. After that we could run all the way down to the harpoon guns before the boss respawned. Then start the fight. Even that didn't work. Once the boss arrived there were still mobs on the ground, and once he starts whirlwinding there aren't many places for casters to run sigh

Casters shouldn't even come close to getting hit.  Move Skadi about halfway down the long hall as quickly as possible before the first whirlwind, let dps clean up the final adds, after that everyone focuses on the boss.

23.2K mana, 40% Holy Light crit unbuffed.  I've got a little room for growth left.  Really need to replace my weapon / shield.

I'm way too poor.  That would be amusing, though.  On a greatness proc, assuming it's affected by the holy talent and kings, I'd hit just under 35K mana raid buffed (8750 mana divine plea).  More if I switched my meta.  It's all pointless (atm), though.  Last night I didn't drop under 18K mana in Naxx.

I watched some videos of the Skadi fight and I'm more confident now. Next time we're going to exploit the reset bug again, and I'll stand in the room where the mobs spawn and aoe them there. Then make sure to get in Skadi as soon as he arrives, bring him further down the hallway and tank him there.

During our failed run I still got one of the items I wanted:

I four-manned Skadi on Heroic last night.

Group was a DK, Prot Pally, Holy Pally, Huntard, and me (Mage). As soon as Skadi jumps off the drake, he landed right on the Huntard and basically one-shotted him. Only death in the entire run and we even got the King's Bane achievement at the end.
