I'm not 100% on how many, but I know Canada's healthcare system, which so many want to hold in such high esteem, has alot of problems.

I am the mother of a child with asthma. When my son had difficulty breathing randomly through the winter, I sought treatment. First I made an appointment with my doctor (2 week waiting time) so I could obtain a referral to a specialist. (In Canada you cannot just go to a specialist, you must get a referral from the gatekeepers: family doctors. Oh, and about 5 million Canadians don’t have one of those.) It took about six weeks for the specialist to get back to me with how long I’d have to wait for my son’s appointment: 12 months. Did I mention that periodically he couldn’t breathe?


What’s the median time for an MRI in Alberta? Almost 9 weeks. And for about 360 of the 18,839 people served in a 90 day period, their wait was up to a year. Granted, if you arrive in the ER in desperate and dire need of an MRI, you are rushed to the front of the line. The rest just wait. Not knowing, wondering, waiting.

So much of that list basically assumes socialism = communism. You have no freedom! No reason to thrive! Gubmint controls your wallet! The only thing that promotes laziness here is the list author's lack of effort to come up with compelling arguments.

My issues with Socialism are...
higher taxes (could depend on the country), weakening the reward of effort for the individual, spreading wealth, undermining personal responsibility, and it creates dependence on the State.

Granted there seem to be different brands of Socialism in the world today, those are just a few common examples that come to mind.

Well, if Obama has his way, healthcare will be nationalized or at least prepared for it really quickly. That is a form of socialism.  And if you look at the Canada healthcare example I posted on the first page, you'd see a valid reason I'd like us to not go to that.
(But yes our current Healthcare does suck too)
