I agree with you. Probably the worst rpg I've played since FFXII.

No story, no sense of direction, SHITTY TRANSLATION, and an ugly art style?

wtf  :punch

DQIVr, DQVr are better than 99% of the jrpgs made since.  They have charming characters, simple but endearing stories, A+++++ music, and user-friendly gameplay that's not too grind heavy and even when you die you don't feel bad because you keep your xp.  They're about exploring worlds and going on adventures and doing it on a quick pace.  I think DQIVr took me like 20 hours and DQVr around 30.

I can't wait for DQVIr.  I bet it'll be better than every rpg on the DS/PSP DQIX included.  Old-school DQ is the jrpg.

Old school DQs are nothing more than watered down versions of Ultima.

I enjoyed Too Human more than DQ4. Easily the worst game I've played this year.

New school DQs are nothing more than watered down versions of Dragon Ball Z.  :'(

DQ4 gets really fucking good in the 5th chapter... when the world opens up a bit more and things get a bit less linear. The translation is terrible, with all the lame accents but the rest of the game is damn good. Can't wait for DQ5 DS, now that is a killer game.

DQ4 has going for it:
-Great music
-Some cool dungeons (though they seem a lot smaller in this remake)
-Extremely quick combat
-Cool final boss fight
-Taloon's chapter which is one of the most creative RPG scenarios around

Surprised Prole hates it esp considering he's a big DQ7 fan from what I remember. Prole, what don't you like about DQ4 as compared to the DQ games you have enjoyed?

Bebpo, did you ever play DQ6 original? I liked DQ5 a lot more personally. But DQ6 is one of the tougher games in the series.

mostly the translation. just when i thought i'd escaped the bad scottish mashups, i got hit with several towns worth of borat. on top of that, the game feels very linear and extremely shallow, the characters are distinguished mentally-challenged, and the whole thing is scrotum-ugly.

Well I can't speak for the translation because I played the DQIV that didn't have a horrible localization  8)

Nope.  DQVIII was my first DQ, and then DQVr on PS2 and then DQIVr on DS.  I really like the graphical Grandia like style of 4r/5r so I'll just wait for the remake for DQVI.

Maybe will play VII one day, but my favorite things about DQIV/V are how fast paced and concise they are compared to the slower and loooonger DQVIII.  So VII's running length of 100+ hours means who knows if I'll ever play it.

I would kill someone to be able to forget Ultima V so I could play it again and get that "holy shit...HOLY FUCKING SHIT" feeling again.

I really wish I would've bought that Ultima collection they came out with on PC a while back. Now, I hear that a lot of them are pains in the asses to play, due to all the weird-ass DOS memory managers the games used. Ultima is the only WRPG series I like...

I remember when I was a kid I was torn between getting the newest Ultima game (I had never played the series but I really wanted to) and Illusion of Gaia.  Eventually I pick Gaia because it came with a free t-shirt :(  worst decision I ever made

I still haven't played an Ultima game :gloomy

Crisis Core's Gackt filled, drama-ridden plot is leagues above the shit in DQIV.

I like dq4 ds. It's fun. It has a lot of flaws that bring down the experience though.

I don't really go into games looking for reasons to hate them, though, so I guess I'm pretty different from my fellow hardcore gamers.

I'm no hardcore gamer, but I do this. DQIV still fucking sucks, regardless.

don't be coy. i liked dq3gb and dq7 a lot. dq4 is just an overlocalized, shallow chore. there'd better be a job system in chapter 5!
