MAF, I don't know if you ever got my PM when you were still at GAF, but thank you for talking about Rilo Kiley all the time. I used to be like "wtf, why does he like this chick rock band" and then I listened to more than just Portions for Foxes, bought the album, and now I absolutely love More Adventurous. I couldn't even tell you how many times I've listened to it this year, so far.

I like that song a lot, however I was trying to keep the cd upbeat since its for driving. BNL has some amazing stuff. Celebrity is a fantastic song too. Helicopters is honestly the song that made Marroon worth it for me.

Diablos: Rilo Kiley was recommended to me by GAF when I was back in AZ, and I too was pleasantly surprised. I dont like when the dude sings too much cause I simply adore Jenny Lewis' vocals. I crappy my pants with joy when I first got to listen to Rabbit Fur Coat. The Rilo Kiley CDs have a really nice range of music much like Give Up by the Postal Service.

Actually, the album version is okay.

Diablos: I noticed (via last.fm) that you were listening to Hum earlier. "Stars" really is one of the best songs of the entire 90's decade. The rest of the album is great too.

Haha, don't ever worry about that. I often listen to some of the most insipid pop shit imaginable. I'm a sucker for melody and beats. So you'll see a lot of stuff like that in my list.

I really, really loved Extraordinary Machine. It's funny because the only reason I looked into her was because I had heard one of Dr Dre's production partners (in this case, his bass producer) was producing the album; I had no idea it would entertain me as much as it did. Like you said, it's just extremely varied, and you aren't forced to listen to a single plus 6 other songs that sound just like the single, but worse.

After that I explored her early work, and I must say I'm just blown away. Her voice catches your attention, which is very important. Many of the great artists in music history have a very distinctive voice that doesn't sound like anyone else; no one sounds like Stevie Wonder except Stevie Wonder, no one sounds like Sam Cooke except Sam Cooke, etc. Today many artists seem content in sounding like everyone else or past greats. Apple's raspy, powerful voice is truly an original work of beauty. You can't say that about many current artists; outside of Fiona Apple, Nora Jones comes to mind imo.

Much of it sounds exactly like the original versions, but there are some amazing mixes here. Glass Onion is just amazing, and the Being For The Benefit of Mr. Kite!/I Want You (She's So Heavy)/Helter Skelter mix is godly.
