John Vanderslice - Pixel Revolt:

His fifth album and he's really hitting his stride.  Melodic and exploratory, each song is mesmerizing in itself.  The 14 tracks are built on short stores, but the music is so good that you might not even notice the lyrics until your third listen to the album.

The Long Winters - Putting the Days to Bed:

The Seattle's band third album.  I love the song "Fire Island AK", but it's all good.  Guests include Kurt Bloch (the Fastbacks) and Chris Walla (Death Cab for Cutie) on guitar, and one-time member Sean Nelson (Harvey Danger) on harmony vocals.

Of Montreal - Sunlandic Twins:

From Athens, Georgia, this is their best album to date.  Catchy and accessible, check out the great animated video for "Wraith Pinned to the Mist and Other Games".

Ladytron - Witching Hour:

The Liverpool's third and best album yet.  It's one of those albums that I can listen to the whole way through over and over.  Great stuff.  I just hope they tour near me.  :)

I 'sampled' this cd a while back and was completely taken by the variety.

Metric rocks, and this is their best CD. Live It Out is awesome, but I listened to that last week ;)

Another cd with a lot of variety. Jenny Lewis is awesome. LOOOLZ.

BNL rocks, and back in the day I didnt appreciate Maroon as much as I honestly should have. I still say their Live album is their best, however it lacks some of their newer songs. The new EP released from BNL is even more acoustic, its clear theyre getting older LOLZ FARTS

What a fresh sounding release.  And it's fresh because it's comprised of many elements of classic rock.  While still sounding original.

This is the key track from the album: Midlake - Roscoe

Can't stop listening to this one.  I've always had an affinity for country, but real country, not this poppy shit you hear today on the radio/CMT and all that.  While this isn't 100% "real country", it's a catchy, accessible album that is one of my favorites of 2006 so far. Download practically the whole album (100% legal! from the record label) for free here: http://www.team-love.com/headphones/releases/tl08/

Had this for a while, but never really listened to it until now.  And all because I heard "I Turn My Camera On" used in some stupid car commercial.  Funky track.  "Sister Jack" is very good, as is "Two Sides Of Monsieur Valentine", and a couple of others I can't be bothered to recall now.

Plus lots of various songs, some of which are: The Knife - Marble House (what an awesome song), The Knife - Heartbeats (another great track from them), Belle and Sebastian - Another Sunny Day (fantastic song) ... I raved about these songs, and you should download them.

I absolutely love that song.  The rest of the album is okay, but isn't really up to the quality of that first song.  I'm hoping the rest of the album grows on me .  I'm also thinking about checking them out live, 'cause they're playing near me in a couple of weeks.  Hmmm..

And Spoon rocks.  Good stuff.  I caught them live on Austin City Limits last year...  They were really good.

My pleasure.  Glad you enjoyed it.  You might like this song as well: Midlake - Head Home

I absolutely love that song.  The rest of the album is okay, but isn't really up to the quality of that first song.  I'm hoping the rest of the album grows on me .  I'm also thinking about checking them out live, 'cause they're playing near me in a couple of weeks.  Hmmm..

I consider "Head Home" almost as good as "Roscoe", perhaps hampered only by the duration of the refrains toward the end.  But, I love the chorus melody, especially the "But there's someone I'd like to see, she never mentions a word to me, she reads Leviathan" part.  It's unfortunate that the rest of the album has extremely little in common with those two songs.  I hope Midlake realizes their potential before their next release.

Error: have you heard the new Neko album? I saw it at starbux and was like HRM buy it or no. Is it a new album? I didnt recognize it.

Was it Fox Confessor Brings The Flood?  That's the latest one.  I've only heard the samples on Amazon, and a couple full songs on her website, "Hold On, Hold On" and "Star Witness" http://www.nekocase.com/music/.  I really like that wonderful melody in "Hold On, Hold On", and from what I've heard of the other songs, it sounds like a winner for sure.  I'm gonna be out tomorrow morning near Target, and they have it there for 10 bucks, so I think I'm gonna pick it up.

EFF TARGET RIGHT IN IT'S POOPER

My local store didn't have Neko Case, so I drove way out of my way to the store three cities over that I originally saw it for ten dollars a couple weeks ago... All copies gone!  So I finally ended up at The Wherehouse where they had the album, but they wanted $17.99 for it...  GET BENT WHEREHOUSE.

I ended up buying this:

The Knife - Silent Shout

Man, this album can be downright creepy listening, and it's still daytime... I wonder what it will be like at night :o.  It's like electro-pop possessed by the devil that someone forty years in the future living in a dreary Blade Runner-esque world would be listening to.  "Marble House" has to be one of the greatest songs ever created.  (p.s. DL Marble House from my first post above)

Check out DragonForce for yourself http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cXuzVbru2vo  It's a shortened version of Through the Fire and Flames.  It fucking rocks harder than anything mentioned previously and the guitar solos that start around the 3:20 mark and last for over a minute are probably more amazing than ANYTHING YOU'VE EVER SEEN!

And what's with the DragonForce hate?  Why don't you hate on Strapping Young Lad http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T6AtBoTlQd4  Wong Side :violin
Or hate on the Devin townsend Band http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L6fdS2ny1J8 Vampira

Between the Buried and Me aren't my favorite but they're opening up for DragonForce when I see them live this weekend so I'm listening to them anyway.

I love DragonForce.  I go through music genre phases, so in 2-3 months I'll probably be listening to nothing but metal.  Also love SYL's "Wrong Side."  Too bad the rest of the album didn't quite match the greatness of that song.

S.Y.L.'s The New Black is pretty good.  It wasn't as good as Alien and I feel/know The New Black was a rush job.  S.Y.L. was told by the record company that they had to have a new album out this year to be on the Ozzfest.  I think the same was said for BTBAM who just released an album of cover songs.  The covers are real close to the originals so it's not even worth getting.  I guess it was a way for BTBAM to stick it to the record company.

I'm not going to ban mogwai, but he's on notice.  Insulting Nick as a taco, especially as a personal insult, falls dangerously into the realm of hate speech.  It's hard to interpret whether or not he meant it in a derogatory sense, but let's not repeat it, okay?

No?  I have a friend who doesn't like them, either.  I do like how it started out as 2 people and now there's 16 or so in the band with constant cameos.  I didn't like them at first either but "Anthems for a Seventeen Year-Old Girl" just stuck with me and I went from there.

It's more of a movement than a band.  I suppose if you can accept that they're not trying to be music in a traditional sense, then it may stick on you.

Maybe not, either or.
