I try not to ever argue my opinion for an extended period of time. You think MGS4 Acts 3-5 are no good, I disagree. Three or four posts on the subject (definitely have already filled my alloted quota on MGS4) and then nonchalant repartee!

But sometimes I go back and read old threads and I'm like, "Wow, was I really that big of a dick over this?" or, "Yikes, I can't believe I phrased that in this way," or, "Wow, I'm a tard." I do that sometimes with old threads.

People are going to read this thread and feel that later. Don't see how you can include "THIS IS A FACT!!!!!" in any post and escape wahjah syndrome  :'(

(For the record I like fallout 3 a lot)

near as damn it, yes! :D

in the whole opinions game, how are MGS4 lovers any more justified?

ANYWAYS, again - it's NOWHERE NEAR being EB's game of the year, so this is just shittying up a Fallout 3 felating thread.
so let's leave it.

hey, i wasn't the one saying anything is a fact!
... well, not in those words anyways! ;)

i'm just saying - most people handled MGS4 in a level headed way when it was discussed.
I don't think anyone was overly hateful and all criticisms were backed up with reason, and anything from that point onwards is now played mainly for comedy lols.

I think if you are looking back at EB posts and thinking "was i that big of a dick?" then you just need to lighten up and go with the flow.

you have to be a REAL DICK consistantly to offend anyone, i'd think and you are far from that.

I'm not worried about offending anybody. I just really hate posts with lists in them, it's like jarrod is posting here.

(I wasn't talking about you btw, I don't think I've ever seen you engage in list wars  :lol) I think your posts are always good for a laugh even when I disagree. I've never seen the word "mong" used so creatively and in as many different parts of speech.

act 3 was garbage. completely indefensible trash.

the rest of the game (cutscenes not included) i enjoyed.

the game would have been so much better if someone coulda reeled kojima's crazy ass in.

I enjoyed Act 3 the first time I played it, but the second time around it's not good.  It's a bit like that worm level in Gears 2 or the entirety of Braid.  It's fun to play once, then afterward you want it over with.  Act 4 is a bit of the same way.  Act 5 I didn't have issue with.

There's a huge difference between list wars and separating points into lists.  Sometimes a quick list is easier to read (and write) than a huge block of text :)

:piss Kestastrophe's "Empirical Evidence" :piss2

PS3 owners had more exclusives to choose from. Plus, 3 of the 4 exclusives were release within weeks of each other thus watering down the whole picture. Legs are important in these tight times. Let's raise this argument a couple months from now.

Gears 2, Fable 2, Banjo, and other 360 exclusives were also released within a few weeks of one another.  And let's get factual here.  The PS3 had 17 exclusives in 2008, including three versions of Singstar.  The 360 had 21 exclusives (30 if you count console exclusive).  Sfag misinformation is out of control.

It doesn't matter if we have this argument today or in 50 years.  MGS4 is still a mediocre game and has no place in "anything" of the year contention unless the award is for "Biggest Budget."

I was basing my point off that chart, not the whole year. G2, F2, and Banjo were also released in the same time period I'm referring to making choices even tougher for those who own both consoles and don't have $600 to plunk down on games for a month. G2, F2, and Banjo should have excellent legs as well.
I didn't say shit about MGS4 and your view on it is PURELY opinion, which you are entitled to.

I was correcting you when you tried to say that PS3 owners had more exclusives to choose from.

MGS4 comment was aimed at others.  Sorry about the misunderstanding.  In MGS4-related news, I've been playing some Quantum of Solace over the past few days and it has MUCH better shooting controls, cover mechanics, and online play than MGS4.  It's not a great game or anything, but it's nice to play something that gets the core game right.

There wasn't anything released on the Wii this year that you can even pretend is of GOTY quality.

Mirror's Edge is a fast paced platformer, and Dead Space is a plodding shooter.  Both are good games, but Mirror's Edge feels short, while Dead Space drags like a bitch in the middle.  Did you try the Mirror's Edge time trials?

No I didn't have the code, but when I played the demo all I could think about was how awesome time trials must be. It just fits the whole concept of the game.

Mirror's Edge is shorter but will ultimately have a lot more replay value, especially with the DLC.  Dead Space is a better game, but the New Game + is kind of screwed up (it only works on the same difficulty), so the only incentive for multiple playthroughs is achievement hunting.

They are both must-plays, but I'd rent Dead Space and buy Mirror's Edge if you HAD to buy just one of them.

You can't go too far wrong with either Dead Space or Mirror's Edge.  I liked Dead Space more, but they're both awesome.  Get both.

it's still difficult in an annoying way

Every race is basically a time trial, even the ones they claim are races against other cars.  You basically can't fuck up or else you'll lose.  The AI is so shitty that you can push them into a wall, get them to crash up, his nitrous on a straight with little to no traffic, and they will appear right behind you within seconds.  And the civilian driver AI is terrible and they will drive into your car since they won't deviate from their planned course.

no surprises Fallout 3 won here...it has the largest thread on the forum!  we all love it.  And no surprises MGS4 won on gaf, but I'd wager it's almost as much of a non-game as Wii Fit.  It's more of a movie with 2 good stealth gameplay chapters at the beginning.

After listening to various GOTY podcasts and reading various GOTY articles, looks like we're the only ones who got it right (unless I missed something somewhere)

once again, evilbore = real talk for real gamers
