Arya and Tyrion are generally people's favorite characters, plus Jon.

Williams is still very young, but she looks older, and sounds older; her voice has gotten deeper compared to last year:

There's a chance we'll get the first trailer on December 11th, before the Boardwalk Empire finale.

Jorah and The Hound ended up my favorites. Before I grew to like Dany and Sansa chapters, they carried them for me.

So far the armor and costumes from S2 look much better than in S1.

A little birdie who ‘might’ work for HBO ‘might’ have told me that season starts April 1st. Love your blog by the way.

Just a rumor, but if true we should know soon enough as we'll start seeing more new media, trailers etc.

Yup the location of outside shots for King's Landing have been moved from Malta to Croatia. The production video alone looks better than every exterior shot in the first season. From what I understand Croatia is pretty expensive to film in, especially compared to Malta, but hopefully the sales of the S1 DVD and S2's ratings justify the expense.

I'm excited at how much better these trailers and production videos look when compared to S1. The first season was definitely good, but many of the early episodes just didn't feel like amazing television, or HBO standards. Lots of the cinematography was pretty boring imo. The final 3-4 episodes saw definitive improvement, especially the last two. From what has been shown and discussed thus far, S2 will be far more cinematic. I can't wait.

I wonder if they got a good deal on their filming costs from Croatia. The country is trying to become more and more of a tourist destination and is likely looking for more publicity.

As the video says, they're filming at Dubrovnik. That's one place I've been wanting to go. Pula, too, but that has an ancient Roman flare due to the surviving ruins. Dubrovnik is supposed to have some killer seafood.

I only skimmed the GAF thread for this but people have mentioned the foresty bits were shot in Ireland, these might just be the really north North.

I don't think the problem is lack of trees, but yeah, always pictured the North as Siberia/Northern Canada tundra. Not Antarctica.

The woody stuff is being handled in Ireland from what I understand, with the beyond the Wall scenes being handled in Iceland. Makes sense to me, as the Wildling areas were described as having mountains and waterfalls

The Fist Of the First Men scene will be shot in Ireland  too. So while we don't know if "that scene" will happen in S2, they'll at least reach the area.

Yea, that whole thing.

Like, I know they reach the Fist this season, and Jon goes off with Halfhand to scout. There's a lot of discussion on whether Jon will get captured in ep9 or ep10; HBO tends to have the penultimate episode be where big shit hits the fan, and the finale sets up the next season.

So I'm thinking Jon kills Halfhand and is captured in ep9, then in ep10 we learn that he's being taken directly to the Wildling camp to meet the king beyond the wall. Perhaps the very final scene of the season could be Sam back at the Fist, dogs going crazy, cold wind, and three horns blasting. That would be badass

I'm sort of excited as to how they'll portray the Iron Islands. It can be a bit droll in the books but visually I think, if they do it correctly, should be pretty captivating to actually watch.

That was...pretty much the point though

spoilers:
spoiler (click to show/hide)
ASOS is the end of the series' first act. The following novels (which are essentially one novel) haven't lived up to ASOS in part because the various political factions within the series are still dealing with the fallout from The War Of The Five Kings. consider it by region: the Riverlands are still carrying out a small, dying rebellion in the middle of ADWD. The north remains unconquered, despite the devastation of the Starks. The theater of war is now focused on the south (the Ironborn fighting Highgarden), where there are no POVs unfortunately.

The Red Wedding was like dropping an atom bomb on a country: there's not much else that can top it or advance things. Now the question is how things progress everywhere else.

I'd also argue this wouldn't be nearly as much of a perceived problem if ADWD had come out on time. People waited 5 years for what they thought would be a sequel to ASOS, and it wasn't. Reactions would have been more realistic/calm if the book came out a couple years after AFFC.

IMO (series spoilers):

spoiler (click to show/hide)
The story struggled to maintain its momentum once the events of Storm were wrapped up. There hasn't really been a major conflict since then. The Others still haven't invaded, the events across the Narrow Sea have stumbled along slowly, and there's no overarcing narrative driving the story forward anymore. I'm still very interested in where it goes, but killing off Robb immediately ended one of the crucial conflicts of the series. It was a masterfully-written scene though.
[close]

spoiler (click to show/hide)
No overarching narrative? The Others are coming, disease is spreading, magic is coming into full power again... it's very much a fallout from ASOS but in its wake lies devastation, or perhaps life? It's left the entire world on edge, and for that I think the RW was necessary for the series and why ADWD and AFFC make wonderful catharsis.

Amazing. One of the things I really didn't like about S1 was how Sandor's story was handled. That's such a powerful scene that demands to be told dramatically by Sandor himself, not whispered by Littlefinger.

I can't believe they essentially glossed over that scene with Littlefinger's explanation. That was a pivotal scene in the book and it seems as though McCann would have been up to the task of the portrayal. They really underutilized Clegane in the first season but I guess the already dense season needed certain things cut.
