Oh and Wentos's items are random each time you visit. So you will probably have to keep finding him to make sure he sells a specific souvinir.

I found that you can buy stuff from Wentos and sell it back for sometimes up to twice the profit. I just buy/sold myself up to 70000 rings. Now I am scarfing Sonic with delicious Steaks from Empire City x 99 (roughly 9000 rings) for 50exp a piece - giving me 49 experience bars to use.

Oh, and Werehog maxes out at 11 for everything. And the final level requires 99 experience bars.

But, I'm just about done maxing him out. I will end this game at a cool crisp 850 / 1000

You sold them right back to Wentos, or to someone else in town?

WTF @ 99 levels per level, that's crazy.

demi

Back to Wentos.

It varies too. I bought Hero Sandwiches for 30 rings, then sold them back for 90.

Those Tails QTEs are fucking awful.  How many of these levels are in the game?

I opened mine and did the first Sonic level, Werehog level, Tails level.

It's...almost good?  Like it feels like the game design was not the problem this time around, but rather tech stuff.  Feels like if they gave it to a good dev for 6 months to clean it up it could be a 8 or 9 game.

+Graphics look better than 90% of the X360/PS3 rpgs...wtf!
+Werehog combat is actually decent.  Seems about as competent of button masher as God of War1
+Graphics are GOOD
+Sonic levels are less likely to have you randomly fall off the level than previous 3d Sonics
+Has more gameplay than Prince of Persia
+After the intro cutscenes which was unskippable (and SCARED ME with Nights Wii flashbacks), all the cutscenes are skippable THANK GOD!!!!  I'm not watching these designed-for-slow-3-year-olds skits.

-Controls with Sonic feel too loose.  Like I'm sliding around even when I'm walking.  When I run I don't feel like I'm going 100% where I want to be, but rather 'around' where I want to be.  Almost Wii-ish level of sensitivity overload.
-Camera is better than past games but it still SUCKS compared to 99% of real games.  I hate this camera in both Sonic and Werehog levels.
-Still fall off the levels sometimes because you can't judge depth with the camera or the game just bugs out
-FRAMERATE GOES TO SHIT IN WEREHOG FIGHTS....wtf, couldn't they have fixed this!?!
-While I'm cool with the Werehog platforming and fighting, the LETS PICK UP STONES puzzles are terrible
-Tails part would be nice if you could attack rather than defend only, also if you could, you know, move the plane

I think if the camera, controls, and framerate were smoothed out it'd actually be a legitimately good game.  As it stands it's good but Sonicely good, which is a standard of its own.

I think I'm going crazy.  I actually liked the first Werehog level better than the first Sonic level because I felt like I was actually in control and not sliding around on iceskates.  The God of War QTE finishers are lol, but fun and work about as well as GoW and KH.

I don't think I'd replay any of the levels, but the game is enjoyable enough I wouldn't mind just blowing through it quickly.

I did the day stage in Africa and that was great, but the one in Iceland or whatever sucked ass. Too much running around and now I have to collect tokens. I gave it a second shot but not for me. If I could just do the levels in order that'd be great.

Are you gathering the tokens in the towns and Entrance Stages? There's plenty to be found in those alone, both night and day versions.

I like how the Werehog levels are the terrible scourge upon this game in the beginning of the review and by the end the hub worlds become the worst thing about the game.

What an asshole, this game is nowhere NEAR as bad as he says even in the first minute. It's a 6/10 at worst, if you absolutely loathe the Werehog levels. I'd put it at an 8/10 myself.

edit: If Africa act 2 is that racetrack level, then there is a mega shortcut in it that lets you skip half the track.

CurseoftheGods

It's an 8/10 for me too. As far as non-Sonic distractions in 3D Sonic games go, the werehog is probably the best one overall. I didn't find it as offensive as the Knuckles and Rouge stages in SA2.

Let's tally up the ownages...

I'm going to go with the safe assumption that it will be crap.

ugh.

It's going to be crap.

it's just not going to be completely unplayable crap.

If I had to bet when the next decent Sonic game would come out, i'd go with never.

Nintendo Power gave it an 8/10, lol.

the most bizarre part about Unleashed is that people are already doing preemptive damage control by starting hype for Sonic and the Black Knight.

owned

It will definitely be better than valkyria chronicles

:bow

I have no hope for this whatsoever. Sonic Rush was OK (never played the sequel), but for now I'm content with just replaying 1, 2, 3, +Knuckles, and CD.

This game is gonna be awesome. Sonic 4 lyfe (Image removed from quote.)

Apparently this game is 3 parts Werehog to every 1 part fast running stage

oh... massive ownage here

Looks awesome and fun haters be damned.

wow, borys redeemed. but he's still dumb.

I'm getting it, will be awesome

:bow me again

there's no reason to buy this and encourage sega further when there are actual good games worth spending your money on out right now

yep thats some ownage

As someone who has played and completed Sonic 2006, Unleashed is already leagues better. Nobody else here has done that. I am the best Sonic fan around. I even have this giant Sonic cardboard thing. It's pretty sweet. Cause I'm a big Sonic fan.

I also accurately predicted Sonic Rush was a complete disaster, btw.

oh, here's me again :bow

Yup. Werehog is better than every Sonic friend aside from Tails in SA1. The platforming as a whole is pretty good, too. My only real complaint is that enemies have too much HP and sometimes they respawn.

Probably have to do the singing quest where the Shamar guy wants to sing, so he goes to Empire City, and then you have to do a quest to fetch the record label boss

Oh, I already did Shadi's singing quest, and I got the record label producer (Def Big he's #87). I'm just missing #86 for some reason I can't find out why. :lol

Played some more.

I don't have a beef with the Werehog sections.  I kind of enjoy them.

The Sonic sections seem alright.  I just hate how fast Sonic moves, to the point where you feel like you have no control over him.  I liked the Sonic Adventure 1/2 type of speed where it was fast but you felt in control.  A lot of times, I force Sonic to stop to see if I even have any control.

Aside from the shit Tails level, I think this game is pretty good overall.

Just use the Y button which gives you a bigger reach. Some enemy groups you dont even have to fight. Use Unleashed as well. But mostly just mash the Y button and run in circles.

Curse, is there a good FAQ for talking to all the villagers? I'm missing a handful and it looks like I need to do specific side missions in order to talk to certain people.

All I need to beat for the all-night level achievement is Abadat act 2. There is a part where you need to fight 50,000 enemies in order to free the path to press 4 switches, and then with no checkpoint you need to swing across 10 or so electricity blue blob guys.

Any tips for this? You get zapped and you are fucked and have to replay 8 minutes of brawling.

edit: fuck I don't even have to take that path  :duh

I don't remember doing side quests for most of those

12 - Otto. He's found outside the university in Spagonia. Try going there at night.
26 - Dora. Also found outside the university in Spagonia. Try going there at night.
50 - Yaya. Essie's daughter. I think she's hiding behind a tree next to her mother the first time you see her. Not sure if it's night or day.
51 - He's Mazuri's hot dog vendor.
83 - Nagi. She's a little girl found at night in Adabat. She needs to be exorcised.
86 - The Boss. He's found in Spagonia (near Joseph the vendor) at night.
92 - Brenda. American freelance writer that can be found anywhere but Empire City. I think I first found her first outside the entrance to the hub world in Chun-nan.

Hope that helps.

This game was decent until I couldn't play more Sonic levels because I didn't have enough tokens.

Token hunting  :yuck  I think I'm done with this.  Too bad because the sonic levels were really good.  Maybe the best since SA1.  But having to put up with all this shit is like Nights Wii all over again.  When will Sega learn.  smh.  Even if they wanted to do WEREHOG, I'd be fine with a game that was just alternating WEREHOG/SONIC levels with no towns, collect-a-thons, story.  Just stages like a NORMAL VIDEOGAME.

I only got stuck on the coins twice - in Holaska (third region) because I didn't even realize that I was supposed to be getting coins at all until then. Took like 5 minutes to get enough. Then for the last level I was 27 short but even that only took like 15 minutes to get once I realized you could go back to towns at night to pillage new coins.

I completed the game without farming coins in any actual level. The hub world and entrance stages have plenty of coins, and different coins appear depending on whether it's day or night.

I tip my hat to you guys who have the patience and skills to finish this game.

I tried getting back into it and playing it today.  Here is how it went:
-Do rooftop run night stage = ok, no pain.
-Do Hoolaska day stage = kinda shitty, annoying Sonic 2006 deaths here and there because of the camera
-Go to hunan = omg, the framerate is AWFUL
-Do dragon night stage = oh wait, you need to be lvl.3 medals and you are like 10 short.
-Spend an hour running around all the hub stages and towns collecting all the moon/sun medals + redo a few sonic day stages and TRY to get more medals but I barely get any because they are so fucking fast and when you miss one most of the time you have to restart the entire stage if you want it.
-Do dragon night stage = SO MUCH TRIAL AND ERROR DEATH IN PLATFORMING.  OMG
-Fight pheonix boss = FRAMERATE IS SO BAD I AM STILL DOING COMBO WHEN QTE APPEARS AND IT HITS THE WRONG BUTTON.  FRAMERATE IS SO BAD I GRAB A BARREL AND TURN TO THROW IT AND HIT THROW AND HE DOESN'T TURN AND THROWS IT AT A WALL
-Go do rooftop run day stage = Kinda good, but then kinda shitty towards the end with all the robot beams and stuff
-Go do dragon day stage = OH WAIT YOU NEED TO BE LVL.4 MEDALS AND YOU ARE 10 SHORT
-Since I've gotten most of the hub/town ones that means I'd need to replay a THIRTY MINUTE LONG SHITTY WEREHOG LEVELS to get more Sun medals...I'm done for the day.  Maybe another day.
-Go and check faq to see what the final max medal level is.  If it's 4 then maybe I will bare it and do another hour of medal grinding and then just finish off the rest of the stages.
-Reads faq...LEVEL 7 (120 MEDALS REQUIRED)...WTF!??!?!?
......I'm done with this game

I looooove the graphics, but no game has made me want to throw my controller through a wall like this in a long time.  The camera/controls SUCK SO BAD and the game design with the medal grinding is horrible.  I hate Sonic.  :maf
