So I started watching Seinfeld after being totally homo for It's Always Sunny and people saying it's like "Seinfeld on Crack". I've never really bothered with it Seinfeld before and now I've seen 3 episodes it hasn't really gotten a laugh out of me. Now, I know I need to give it some time to give it a propper chance, but if and when does it actually start to be funny? Cause it's shooting blanks atm.

I like Seinfeld, but was never a super huge fan of it. Main reason being it seemed the cast would get nearly always get fucked over in the end. Not really something I tend to enjoy for my shows. I don't particularly care about the first few seasons either, and liked the much latter ones, though your mileage may vary.

Seinfeld gets good a few seasons in. Trust me, there are a lot of memorable episodes.

The soup nazi, festivus, george getting engaged, etc... List goes on.

For me, a lot of its humor comes from knowing people who fit the awkward Jewish New Yorker stereotypes that the characters are. On top of that, a lot of the situational stuff was being done in a time before "everything and anything" was done on comedy TV and tepid sitcoms still ruled the air. They had lots of clever stories, tons of funny characters with really unique idiosyncrasies, and quality writing...it wasn't like Friends where you feel 10 IQ points dumber after watching it. It's like Curb Your Enthusiasm without swears and with a few more main characters (and what do you know, Larry David wrote for the show, haha.)

I agree that you should probably skip the first season and maybe the second too.

Always Sunny couldn't be more different from Seinfeld. To me it's funny in terms of subtle (and not so subtle) "ha that reminds me of my mom/dad/dude at the gas station/waiter/etc", ie reminding you of past experiences through everyday life stuff. Not bust-out-laughing type funny (for the most part). To me Arrested Development is a great mixture of both styles

It's still phenomenal...there's a shitload of newer and better comedy than the tripe being put out around Seinfeld's time, but Seinfeld is still above a lot of it. I think a lot of people's senses of humor aren't as in tune with it these days. Comedy has changed a lot in the 00s.

That's the thing about it; it's humor has a real depth to it that something like IASIP doesn't have. Seeing Charlie open the the door wearing an nazi uniform and eating a banana had me on the floor but it diminishes with each viewing. really watching some eps of sunny a second time through is hard and that goes with a lot of sitcoms. There are some that retain there value and seinfield is one of them.

Seinfeld was just another overrated NBC show. There's so much shit on NBC that seems to succeed merely by their corporate backing than any real quality. Will & Grace was gay exploitation with two jokes being beaten into the ground. you don't really have to watch the episodes in order once you know the main 4 characters

I just realized that I've owned the Seinfeld complete collection on DVD for a year now and haven't watched a single episode in it. I've already seen every episode a couple times by now. Awesome show though.

Seinfeld had about 3-4 golden years (Parts of 2 and 6 and all of 3-5). The show really clicked with me when I watched the one where they are waiting to get seated at a Chinese restaurant. I believe it was near the end of the second season.

Towards the end of it's run, it was pretty much Constanza carrying the show.

Also, alot of the Seinfeld "humor" is showing people being uncomfortable or creating situations that make the viewer uncomfortable. If you don't find that kind of tension funny, then you probably won't like Seinfeld. Larry David ratchets up that aspect ten fold with Curb Your Enthusiasm.
