I think the list is alright, except for GTA4 obviously.

IGN Australia and UK are far more level-headed than IGN US who swing wildly between tantrum throwing and teenage gushing.  So it's a little disappointing to see GTA4 at the top.

Nice to see Dead Space and Mirror's Edge getting recognition.

Is that actually going to happen? Do people actually like Wii games? There are a few good games for the thing but they all came out last year

Galaxy was fun but it was the first 3d platformer I had played since Crash 3 on PS1 :piss 3d Platformers :piss2

Excite Truck was really, really good. Prob the best launch title evar

Metroid Prime 3 was a more of the same with decent waggle, so solid

No More Heroes was good as I am a huge Suda fanboy

ummmmmmm

Kororinpa is actually pretty awesome too

How does Fallout 3 "lack the gameplay muscle" in comparison to GTA IV, exactly?

Fallout 3 = fun

GTA IV = snoozefest

This list is complete balls.

GTA4 was also Wired's #1 Multiplatform title of the year.  I predict its OSCAR WINNING story will make it GOTY.  Which is fucking bullshit.  That belongs to Fallout 3.

gta iv was such a poorly executed game on so many different levels

indestructible vehicles during missions, no checkpoints, dating sims, busted controls (bububu he leans when he turns), awful "satire"

in my short time playing i never had one minute of fun, it was a constant exercise in frustration

fallout 3 was fun from moment one, and there was always something creepy or hilarious - and, yes, even touching - around every corner

i got 97 hours out of my first run, was never bored, and still didn't see everything there was to see

I tried so, so hard to like Grand Theft Auto IV.  I even enjoyed the scale of it all initially.  But the game was so frustrating.  Who really, truly found it fun?  Anyone?

I cannot understand that months after its release, the mainstream press will pick it as their unanimous Game of the Year.  Does a committee pick these awards in advance after moneyhats?

There's more gameplay in Lich King then in Fallout 3. It aslo trumps it in meaningfull level progression and a much deeper and satisfying combat system.

For all the fun people make of MMO's they have some of the best combat ever, when it clicks it isn't like any shitty Single Player RPG. True syngery. Ffs.

I haven't played Resistance 2 or Gears 2 yet, but I'm inclined to believe that I will probably enjoy Resistance 2 better.

Although both are probably six hours and take place in mostly gray environments.

So far, my GOTY is a tie between Fallout 3 and MGS4. Fallout is that fucking good. I can't believe how awesome the game turned out to be. MUCH better than Oblivion, and definitely a graphical improvement as well.

But when you have people on the internet bashing GTAIV and then sucking MGS4's balls, you know you can't take forum opinion like a representation of truth in many cases.

People love the game because it's a GTA sandbox game. They like driving cars around and shooting people. That's only part of the game, though. The actual storymode is fairly dull. There's only like... one interesting mission to be had, and the characters sucked.

"Oh the game doesn't let me do redneck side missions, and it's not super duper over the top, and i can't like throw myself from an airplane, the game is bad!!!!!"

smh

The game plays better than any other game of its kind.

The driving is superior.

Shooting is superior.

The cover mechanic works.

Car chases aren't super crap like in saints row.

The game tells a cool story with cool characters.

Amazing production values.

The game's physics allow for some pretty impressive moments during gameplay, like chase sequences, shooting sequences.

The game is fun.

Offers a ton of content in one dvd.

The multiplayer is fun.

The game renders the best sandbox city, the best looking graphics in a sandbox, the most alive city in a sandbox, the most immersive and involving experience in a sandbox game.

What more do you want? Stupidity? Go play the John Cena GTA, you want super powers? Go collect some orbs in Crackdown.
