She had a very interesting profile with cute pictures and cool interests (lots of awesome literature and movies; she MCed a panel for Grant Morrison at Comicon). She was kind of disjointed to chat with, but some people have quirky chat personalities and given the profile and interest overlaps I figured, hey! let's meet up.
Unfortunately, her profile had been written about 18 months previous, and in the interim she had gotten addicted to several hardcore drugs (cocaine, heroin, meth) - I did not know this until I met her. She claimed to have been 2 months clean but it was obvious that she had experienced some sort of brain damage. Even more depressing was when glimpses of her former witty and intelligent self would cut through the murky fog of conversation. It was incredibly depressing and a difficult time and really underscored the importance of ALWAYS making the first meeting with someone an easily escapable coffee date.
