Spider-man was a high school geek before he got the powers. He swings around on webs and is known as the "friendly neighborhood Spider-man."

Which one of these two fucking superheroes is going to get a movie with a ton of over the top action sequences, guaranteed, no matter who's directing it?

Interpretations of the character give him ridiculous muscles, just like Spiderman was beefed up to shit in the Mcfarlane run. X-Men 3 wasn't actually as shitty as I was expecting it to be.  I went in with pretty low expectations, and I definitely needed them, but I didn't come out hating it, really.  I mean, it was pretty bad, but it was definitely better than Superman Returns, which was (I believe) the other superhero flick that summer (right?).

I knew it would be blah when I heard how quick the turnaround was on making the movie.

They have already done his "origin" in X-men 2. It would have been much more interesting to set it in Japan like his first (comic) mini-series was. Samurai's, ninjas, betrayal, the death of a loved one .. it's all there.
