I bought one of the recent incarnations, I believe he added a lot of expanded threads that were never in the original. Having never read the original, I'm not sure if that was left out.

Its a scene with "The Kid" and Trashcan Man. Kid had stopped at some hotel, he was antagonizing Trashcan man (making him drink Coors) and generally making him feel uneasy. Trashcan man ends up passing out, then waking up to find The Kid in bed with him. Said hottness ensues.

Too all who haven't read it, it was a fantastic read , even if the latter most parts were a bit of a chore to read through. Lots of memorable characters.

the comic book adaptation that marvel has started (vol 1 captain trips is going on now) is really a good retelling of the tale but does not fall into the usual issues with comic adaptations of novels.  no horrificly huge blocks of text.

I had seen that on Stephen Kings site. I actually want to follow up with this reading by watching the mini-series (even though I remember it to be horrible). I'll probably eat up that comic book adaptation too.

i have only seen the tv version once, i recall really liking the the captain trips part (which they fit all of into part one.  part one ends with the guy escaping the medical facility) and being kind of "meh" on the rest.

There were a couple of times where I skipped ahead and checked when that portion of certain scenarios would be over with. I really dug the "adventuring" and less of the "political, interpersonal" shit that went on in Boulder/Las Vegas.

I really like the Post Apocalypse setting though, I need to find more books like this. Ones that have more of a focus on traversing some Post Apocalyptic landscape instead of the communal aspects.

That thing was massive enough. I can't imagine him adding more.

I remember liking it, but I was like 14 when I read it (and most of his other ones), so I don't put much faith in the memory.

I've read The Stand like five times. That sequence (short dude is named "The Kid") only appears in the expanded edition. There's also a lot more of Frannie and her dad in the expanded edition.

I love the Stand, but 90% of that love is for the first half. The second half has some neat bits, but it gets bloated and stupid by the very end.

Stephen King cannot end a story to save his life. Most of his books turn to shit during the last 50 pages.
