Good writing. Hard to put it (Game of Thrones) down so far.

The series will absorb you but if your not interested in a good portion of the main characters, it may bore you to tears in some areas. The need to follow through with your favorite character will compel you to read on (I hated the early Daenerys viewpoints).

I remember hating Sansa's early chapters in GoT. Didn't like Catelyn initially either. Oh how things change

i haven't tried to read a fantasy novel in more than 15 years, but it seems like they all include really embarrassing sex scenes

one might almost suspect that fantasy novelists are undersexed!

i used to borrow fantasy novels from this friend of mine. i remember one about giants and a young king arthur or something that went into mortifying detail about the voluntary vaginal spasms some highly coveted whore was capable of producing during sex. i swear there was even some special epithet applied to women with this ability, though i can't remember what it was. it's like...i was 12 and any description of sex should have been titillating, but even then it was embarrassing
