I think it's awesome, when it feels natural. Or, as close to natural as you can get without it being intrusive. This looks pretty intrusive, and borderline silly.

If I had to guess, I'd say something like how Black handled. That's just how I understand 'weight' in FPS game movement.

I will say that I kinda like that kind of weight in a console shooter, but if a PC shooter has it, it would piss me off big time.

I'm at level 3 or 4 in Fear now. I got the shotgun and the nail gun and the gunplay is pretty fun. The level design suckssssssss though and I think I'm in the NEVER-ENDING SEWERS/SEWAGE_PLANT that dark10x was talking about. At least it's hard to get lost but I never have any idea where I'm going so I just keep running forward and when I see a guy I hit slow-mo and whack him in the back and shoot everyone else.

Also demi is right. This game has terrible achievements. I keep beating areas and getting load screens but no achievements. I think I've gotten one so far for beating the intro.

One thing that I hope will become a new standard is the ability to separately adjust horizontal and vertical sensitivity. Killzone 2 felt like a whole new game after I figured out that the best setting for me was vertical sensitivity at about half of the horizontal. Not sure why that isn't already a standard, actually.

Actually, it has more to do with the connection between the camera and weapons. It's difficult to describe, but there is something about the way everything fails to gel that really creates this lack of weight. It has little to do with the audio or the actual firepower of the weapon. I'd say it also extends to the motion of the player character in that simply walking around feels a bit jerky and stiff. I suppose all of this is connected. The way the player weapon looks while walking around is really unattractive and pulls me out of the experience. I believe this has been a problem since SHOGO and Monolith has never quite gotten it right.

I should also note that I am referring to the PC versions of these games. FEAR runs at a rock solid 60 fps at maximum detail at 1080p with 8x AA yet it still feels like crap.

I also think FEAR was a HUUUUGE step down from NOLF. You see, since FEAR, every Monolith game has been flooded with repetitive, ultra boring levels that give the player no sense of place. It feels like an endless linear jog through a series of corridors and rooms. When you "go outside" it feels more like a tile set in an RPG with randomly generated dungeons than an actual outdoor area. It's like "OK, now you're outside" and you have another series of corridors with window dressing that are simply intended to make it seem as if you are wandering city streets or something.

I really miss the days of NOLF where you would find yourself in so many crazy, unique situations...

i like how you can flip tables and shit for cover and the mech sequence is awesome. in fact it's so awesome that i wish they'd make a game around it.

its not a mech game per say as it was a fps that made you also control a robot in that style. They said the mech stuff in FEAR2 is a homage to that game though.

You really think so? I think the pacing was weird, it wasn't as scary as the first game, and the story quickly turned to shit, but the core mechanics were much better than the first game and the investigations were actually kind of fun. "Atrocious" is a very harsh word for what is a B- or so game.

I don't even count the multiplayer in games where it's obviously tacked on and unimportant. A shitty multiplayer mode doesn't impact the single-player mode in any way when I'm judging a game.

It's just horrible IMO. The first part of the game is okay-- it focuses on what made condemned 1 good, though what happened to the clean visual style of the first game? Now everything has next-gen shine and mud and is fugly. Anyway, there is just too much shooting and other bullshit. The boss fights are bad, the levels become wacky and they stay shittily designed (the barge at the end of the game SUUuUCKS). The story is almost unbelievable, and the gameplay mechanics that arise out of that are hilarious.

best part of the game was the bear chase scene and that wasn't scary for the same reasons that condemned 1 was interesting.

I don't give a crap about multiplayer though. Condemned 1 was truly a great game and by far the scariest I've ever played. I wasn't scared once by Condemned 2 and I really, really tried. Played only at night, lights off, everything.

Seeing CCCCOMBO!!! flash on the screen is not the way to do things.

There wasn't anything in Condemned 2 like the subway system (seriously, it goes on and on and on and you just go deeper and deeper and deeper-- there is this palpable sense that you are spiraling into madness) or the apple orchard. instead we get to beat up our alcoholism in the form of a bum.

Condemned 2 isn't atrocious, sure, but it's horrible. It's not anywhere near as good as the first. And it bombed so sux to be them

Even on the PC fear 2 is a bit crap. It's not so much the combat it self, which is still fun and all, but more about how it was designed for the PC. Despite having a 16:10 monitor running the 16:10 resolution of 1680x1050, the game ran in 16:9 with black bars. This is also the first PC game in a long, long time that didn't have support for side mouse buttons. And that grain filter is hideous.

to stay topical, even FEAR 2 horror bits are more annoying than anything close to scary.

I don't agree with this. That part was really dumb. Insta-fail shit like that and the final QTE boss fight should be sent out to developers to teach them what not to do. The last boss fight actually reminded me of Road Avenger death in a way because it was miss one, then it has a horrible cut to a canned scene where he points a gun at your face.

I just played the PC demo. The game didn't look bad, but it didn't look great either. There was some kind of film grainyness to the visuals. Even though I played through the entire first game, I was never a huge fan of it and I never thought it was anything more than average. The controls in the demo were crap, as others have mentioned. Half of the necessary keys aren't even bound to a default, so finding something that made sense was difficult. Plus the fact that I couldn't map the extra mouse buttons sucked.
