I'm pretty sure the controller itself was improved because going back and playing Black or other PS2 shooters, they actually are a lot more playable now. I hated the DS2 for games where you needing precise camera control (basically shooters), but the DS3 fixed that problem for me. Admittedly, I needed to get those $3 trigger caps to make the controller great, but I hardly have any issues with the DS3 anymore. The only one I can think of is that the grips are a bit too short. I do still prefer the 360 controller for shooters, which means a lot since most games this gen are shooters. Almost every other game type I can go with either and be fine. Tho, some action games I like more with the DS3 (DMC4, Ninja Gaiden, etc.)
